The position of Restaurant Host/Hostess at GCRG is pivotal in creating the first and lasting impressions for guests visiting the establishment. This role is responsible for greeting and seating guests courteously and efficiently, managing waitlists, presenting menus, and facilitating reservations through computer software including POS systems. The host or hostess represents the face of the restaurant and contributes significantly to the overall guest experience by ensuring a smooth and welcoming arrival process.

This role is dynamic and demands excellent communication, multitasking abilities, and a focus on guest satisfaction. The host/hostess must stay organized, keep track of table statuses, communicate wait times accurately, and maintain cleanliness of the host area, menus, restrooms, and entryways. Additionally, this position collaborates closely with other restaurant staff to ensure seamless service flow and guest comfort. Employees are expected to work long hours, including frequent weekend shifts, in a potentially noisy environment with varying conditions such as draft near the entryway. Physical demands include standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 30 pounds, and maintaining professional grooming and hygiene standards.

Although no formal education or supervisory responsibilities are required, prior experience in a restaurant or similar customer-facing role and a high school diploma or equivalent are preferred qualifications. Job Duties

  • Greet and seat guests, present menus to guests
  • Treat all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction, always strive to exceed guests' expectations
  • Take names on a waiting list
  • Run the floor plan board
  • Observe tables and keep track of clean, dirty and occupied tables
  • Take guest information and quote wait times to guests accurately when tables are not immediately available
  • Clean, organize and stock menus at host area
  • Answer phone and answer questions concerning the menu and restaurant
  • Interact with guests as they arrive and as they leave the restaurant to ensure positive dining experience
  • Transfer to-go orders, if applicable
  • Maintain restrooms throughout shift as well as any necessary routine cleaning
  • Sweep foyer and front entrance area frequently
  • Use computer software for reservations and POS
  • Perform other duties as directed
  • Open door for guests entering and exiting the building
