Job Description
Hai Hospitality is a dynamic and rapidly growing multi-concept restaurant group headquartered in Austin, Texas. Known for its innovative culinary concepts including Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro, Hai Hospitality combines exceptional hospitality with creative cuisine to bring unique dining experiences to its guests. Established with a focus on quality and guest satisfaction, Hai Hospitality prides itself on fostering a culture of care, dedication, and continuous growth among its team members. With a commitment to community and hospitality, this group has quickly become a favourite dining destination in the region.
The company’s restaurants emphasize Japanese-inspired menus, expertly crafted cocktails, and an inviting atmosphere, which together create memorable guest experiences. They are renowned for not only their exquisite dishes but also their strong culture of promoting from within, offering employees numerous opportunities for growth and career advancement. Employees at Hai Hospitality enjoy a supportive work environment enhanced by comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and accident insurance options, employer matched 401k plans, mental health services via an Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance, and generous dining discounts.
Currently, Hai Hospitality is seeking enthusiastic and professional Hosts to join their team. This role is indispensable in ensuring efficient guest service dynamics by managing reservations, welcoming walk-in guests, setting expectations, and providing cocktail service while guests await their table. Hosts at Uchi earn an average of $22 per hour, which includes base pay plus tips, reflecting the company’s appreciation for outstanding service and dedication.
The Host role involves learning about and becoming acquainted with the menu and Japanese cuisine to better assist guests. Hosts receive peer-led training in beverage offerings, which includes beer, wine, and sake, enabling them to provide excellent cocktail service and enhance the guest waiting experience. An important responsibility is to observe and manage the pace of the dining room, coordinating with the team to ensure smooth table transitions and optimal seating arrangements based on guest preferences and special notes.
Hosts are the cornerstone of guest relations and are expected to build trust with visitors, maintaining clear and welcoming communication as guests wait for their tables. The position demands the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment, while also maintaining a neat, professional appearance and workspace. Guests often experience their first impression through the Host, making this role critical to setting the tone for an enjoyable dining experience.
The position offers great room for career advancement as Hai Hospitality predominantly promotes internally, encouraging employees to grow their skills and advance through the company. This role is perfect for candidates who enjoy interacting with people, have strong communication skills, and are eager to learn about hospitality and Japanese cuisine. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work comfortably in various temperature conditions. Those who thrive in vibrant, energetic environments and are passionate about excellent service will find this opportunity rewarding and fulfilling.
