Job Description
Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG), founded by renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer, is a distinguished hospitality company celebrated for its award-winning approach to providing exceptional dining experiences and fostering a people-first culture. Known for its commitment to "Enlightened Hospitality," USHG emphasizes putting employees first, which ultimately creates an environment where talent thrives, and guests feel genuinely cared for. The group has an impressive portfolio of acclaimed restaurants and continues to set industry standards by prioritizing excellence and innovation in hospitality. The company is dedicated to nurturing a culture rooted in care, creativity, and growth, making it a sought-after employer in the hospitality sector.
USHG is preparing to bring its distinguished hospitality approach to Downtown Detroit in early 2026 with a new location at Hudson's Detroit on Woodward Avenue. Situated at the heart of Detroit's Central Business District, this new establishment will be surrounded by world-class dining, shopping, public spaces, art, and culture. It is also conveniently located near major sports venues and the picturesque Detroit Riverfront, making it a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike. This opportunity represents more than just a new restaurant; it is a chance to be part of a dynamic destination that blends city culture, community, and memorable experiences. As USHG expands into Detroit, it aims to shape the future of the city's vibrant dining scene by introducing its signature blend of warmth, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
The role of Host at USHG's new Detroit location is pivotal as the first point of contact and the initial impression for every guest and visitor. This position demands an individual who embodies warmth, hospitality, and professionalism to create a welcoming environment early in the guest experience. The Host partners closely with the Maître D’ to efficiently manage the dining room by planning seatings and coordinating wait times to ensure a seamless flow throughout service. Responsibilities include creating a hospitable atmosphere both in person and over the phone, answering inquiries about operation hours, menus, and reservations, and acting as a communication bridge between guests, management, service staff, and kitchen teams.
Moreover, the Host must demonstrate a passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences while maintaining efficiency and composure in a fast-paced environment. This role also involves assisting with coat check duties as needed and requires physical stamina to stand or walk for long periods and lift up to 30-35 pounds. Although experience in guest-facing roles within restaurants is preferred, it is not mandatory, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn and grow within the hospitality industry. USHG values diverse communication skills, so fluency in English is required, with additional language skills considered a plus.
At USHG, the philosophy of "extending Enlightened Hospitality" is foundational, reflecting a commitment to the holistic well-being of employees and guests. The company offers competitive pay, comprehensive health coverage, and generous paid time off to ensure balance and recharging. Employees benefit from quick access to earnings through the USHG Digital Wallet, a matched 401(k) plan for long-term retirement saving, and various wellness and life insurance programs. Additional perks include a substantial dining discount across the USHG family of restaurants, pre-tax commuter benefits, and access to employee relief funds in times of need. USHG also fosters an environment of continuous learning, mentorship, and community collaboration, empowering employees to develop professionally within a supportive culture.
The Host position is not only a career opportunity but also a chance to embody and contribute to USHG's core values and six key behaviors: playing to win with humble swagger, connecting the dots to enhance experiences, committing to excellence, embracing learning from mistakes, bringing a charitable assumption to interactions, and being mindful of one's impact. USHG is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values diversity and inclusivity, adhering strictly to federal employment laws and emphasizing fair treatment for all applicants and team members. Joining USHG means becoming part of a prestigious hospitality group that is dedicated to reshaping the hospitality industry with heart and integrity at its core.
