Hearth & Hug Bakery is a small, woman-owned bakery and cafe located in Somerville, Massachusetts. Established in 2023 and initially operating out of the Boston Public Market, the company prides itself on offering warm, homey, and made-from-scratch products including pastries, breads, desserts, and a full range of breakfast and lunch items alongside coffee. As Hearth & Hug Bakery expands into a new space in Somerville, they are seeking a knowledgeable and hardworking Short Order Cook to join their team. This position is part-time, offering a competitive wage of $20.00 per hour. The Short Order Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to order, including eggs, breakfast plates, sandwiches, and salads. This role requires close collaboration with other back-of-house staff and front-of-house team members to deliver creative, warm, and comforting dishes that make customers feel like they are dining at a beloved family member's home.
In addition to cooking to order, the Short Order Cook assists with menu planning for seasonal and rotating dishes, ensuring that the bakery maintains its fresh and innovative offerings. The position also involves performing cooking prep work with the help of a prep cook to keep their station well stocked and ready for service. The cook will uphold high standards of food safety and sanitation throughout the kitchen, adapting dishes as needed to accommodate customers' dietary restrictions and allergy needs.
The work schedule is fixed and requires availability on Wednesday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This consistency in scheduling allows the cook to plan effectively and integrate smoothly into the bakery's operational rhythm. - Previous experience working in food service
- Comfort with knife skills and large kitchen equipment
- ServSafe certification or extensive knowledge of food safety practices

Job Duties
- Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch items to order per recipes given
- Assist the owner with menu planning for seasonal and rotating dishes
- Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation throughout the kitchen
- Adapt dishes to meet customers’ dietary restrictions and allergy needs
- Collaborate with other BOH and FOH team members to keep the bakery running smoothly
- Keep an organized inventory of ingredients and prepped items to assist management with food and paper good orders
- Perform cleaning tasks at your station at the end of the day and assist your fellow team members with closing duties
