Clean Harbors is currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join its team in Saint Louis, Missouri. This full-time, regular position offers a competitive annual salary range from $62,000 to $191,956, reflecting factors such as experience, skills, and location. The Health & Safety Manager role is instrumental in supporting and directing site service operations within an assigned region, ensuring that health and safety programs are properly implemented and continuously improved. The manager acts as a key advisor to site management and personnel, guiding them in maintaining compliance with corporate health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will lead various health and safety initiatives including safety audits and inspections, record-keeping, industrial hygiene monitoring, equipment inspections, safety training, incident investigations, and comprehensive safety reporting. The role involves collaboration with multiple stakeholders at regional and corporate levels to advocate for safe work environments and to respond promptly to emergency situations. Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene or safety related field
  • minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety
  • experience in railcar or tanker operations
  • ability to obtain certification as an industrial hygienist or safety professional
  • good communication skills
  • ability to manage multiple tasks
  • ability to make decisions independently
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • experience in environmental remediation

Job Duties

  • ensure that health and safety is the number one value by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
  • work closely with various managers and other personnel within region to address health and safety issues and drive implementation of health and safety programs
  • audit performance and compliance with policies, programs, and procedures
  • assist in development and review of safety and health programs
  • identify new health and safety program needs or changes to existing programs
  • advise and represent company during regulatory actions
  • review and develop work and site plans
  • conduct on-site health and safety audits and inspections
  • complete and submit projects assigned by health and safety department managers and assist operations in project planning
  • notify management immediately or as soon as possible when government safety agencies arrive for on-site visits
  • review and assist in preparation of safety work plans and site-specific safety and health plans
  • manage employee safety training programs
  • participate in corporate health and safety program development and implementation
  • conduct training of employees
  • attend operations meetings to review health and safety concerns and issues
  • serve as a member of the health and safety committee
  • conduct safety meetings to promote understanding of policies and procedures
  • participate in corporate technical committee
  • respond in timely fashion to emergency response and other incidents and provide health and safety assistance
  • report accidents, incidents, and other issues affecting health and safety to management timely
  • provide technical assistance during emergency responses and handling of hazardous substances
  • audit products for Hazard Communication labeling accuracy
  • manage air monitoring and exposure assessment programs
  • manage safety equipment inspection and testing programs
  • calibrate field survey equipment
  • inspect emergency use respiratory protection equipment
  • submit analytical equipment for calibration
  • manage injury and accident reporting and follow-up
  • provide weekly reports to director
  • maintain daily activities log book
  • complete weekly activities report and submit to corporate or regional manager
  • audit MSDS log book and OSHA logs
  • provide technical support during bid stage of operations
  • conduct site surveys to assure compliance
  • complete site survey forms and discuss results
  • assign health and safety surveys and prepare reports
  • refer noncompliance conditions to corporate manager
  • assure safety permits and paperwork completion
  • order supplies for analytical and protective equipment
  • perform other duties as assigned
