Job Description
Tempus is a pioneering technology company at the forefront of precision medicine and healthcare innovation. Founded in August 2015 by Eric Lefkofsky following his wife’s breast cancer diagnosis, Tempus was established with a mission to harness the power of technology and artificial intelligence to transform cancer care. The company has since evolved into a leader in real-time healthcare data analytics, combining vast volumes of real-world evidence to provide actionable insights. This proprietary platform helps physicians deliver personalized treatment plans by offering critical information on the right treatments tailored to the right patients at precisely the right time.
Starting from its foundation in oncology, Tempus has expanded its platform capabilities to encompass several other therapeutic areas including neuropsychiatry, cardiology, infectious diseases (notably in response to COVID-19), and radiology. Tempus’s core mission remains steadfast: to extend and improve patients’ lives by ensuring they receive the most effective and timely medical treatments through data-driven decision making.
The Tradeshow & Event Strategy Manager role is integral to the Data & Apps Marketing team at Tempus. This position serves as a key contributor to strengthening the Tempus brand and communicating its mission and offerings to influential stakeholders such as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The Event Marketing team covers a spectrum of event types, from large, national trade shows and conferences to internal corporate events, while also responsible for sales enablement through strategic event planning and execution.
Reporting directly to the Director of Tradeshow & Conference Strategy, the Tradeshow & Event Strategy Manager will lead the operational and strategic aspects of Tempus's events portfolio within the Data & Apps business segment. This involves managing a significant annual budget of approximately $2 million and overseeing around 25 conferences and events each year. The role demands exceptional project management skills, the ability to coordinate complex logistics, and readiness to work beyond typical business hours when necessary. Travel is required up to 30% of the time, reflecting the national scope of these marketing initiatives.
Key responsibilities include conference selection and budget management in partnership with senior leadership, leading contract negotiations, planning and implementing marketing strategies for each event, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The manager will collaborate closely with leadership, marketing, and sales teams to coordinate Tempus’s presence at conferences, including exhibit booth management, speaking engagements, customer receptions, and sponsorship opportunities. Developing a high-level understanding of the Data & Apps business is critical for making informed and strategic decisions regarding event goals and audience targeting.
This position demands an individual who is self-motivated, adaptable to shifting priorities, and exceptional at communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ability to handle unforeseen challenges calmly and maintain high-quality outputs is essential. Proficiency with Google Suite tools is preferred to support efficient project execution.
Working at Tempus offers an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing company dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare with AI-driven insights. With a commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity, Tempus values the unique backgrounds and perspectives of all employees and strives to create a workplace where everyone can thrive and contribute to advancing patient care worldwide.
The salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $125,000 for candidates based in Illinois, with variations based on location and individual qualifications. Tempus also offers a comprehensive benefits package, potentially including incentive compensation, restricted stock units, and medical plans among others. This is an excellent chance to play a pivotal role in event strategy at a company committed to changing the trajectory of medicine through innovation and technology.
