Job Description
Amazon is a global leader in e-commerce and cloud computing, renowned for its commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. With a vast network of fulfillment centers strategically located worldwide, Amazon ensures fast and reliable delivery of millions of products to customers every day. The company's dedication to leveraging advanced technology and automation continues to revolutionize the retail industry, creating dynamic and high-energy environments where safety and efficiency are paramount.
The role of Hazmat Waste Coordinator is a vital position within Amazon's Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team, specifically in one of the company's highly automated and fast-paced Fulfillment Centers (FC). This position involves acting as the crucial liaison between Operations and WHS departments to manage hazardous materials (hazmat) waste efficiently and in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies. The Hazmat Waste Coordinator is responsible for coordinating internal hazmat waste disposal, optimizing waste collection processes with external partners, supporting pallet disposal activities, and undertaking special tasks to enhance overall workplace safety and environmental sustainability.
This position requires the individual to put health and safety best practices first in all activities, ensuring that all hazmat waste containers and storage areas are maintained in proper condition. The coordinator must also supervise Tier 1 associates trained in hazmat handling to assist with daily operational tasks such as transporting full waste carts and compacting waste materials. Monitoring and updating waste inventories, ensuring accurate waste classification, and maintaining proper documentation are critical aspects of the role. The Hazmat Waste Coordinator will work closely with the Waste Vendor and WHS to streamline daily waste management activities and promptly communicate any issues to the relevant departments for quick resolution.
Amazon offers a competitive hourly wage for this role, ranging from $23.00 to $24.00 in Niagara Falls, NY, which reflects the challenging nature of the work and the responsibility involved. Additional compensation opportunities include overtime pay, performance bonuses, and a significant launch bonus of $10,000 pre-tax for eligible candidates relocating beyond 50 miles from the launch site. The bonus is designed to incentivize talent acquisition and is subject to specific eligibility criteria and repayment conditions.
Working at Amazon as a Hazmat Waste Coordinator means being part of an inclusive culture that empowers employees to deliver exceptional results for customers. Amazon embraces diversity and promotes equal opportunity for all, including accommodations for candidates with disabilities throughout the hiring process. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package starting from day one, which includes Employee Assistance Program (EAP), mental health support, a medical advice line, and 401(k) matching, among other amenities.
This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays, for up to 40 hours per week and overtime as needed. The physical demands include being able to lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts up to 12 hours long, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach. These requirements ensure the coordinator is able to efficiently support the fast-moving operational environment of the fulfillment center.
In summary, the Hazmat Waste Coordinator is essential to maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace at Amazon's fulfillment centers. This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to workplace safety and operational excellence while being rewarded with competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and the potential for performance bonuses. Those who thrive in dynamic, safety-focused roles and who have experience with Microsoft Office products will find this an exciting and rewarding career path within one of the world's most innovative companies.
