Job Description
The Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) is a renowned family-focused destination located in Syracuse's vibrant downtown Armory Square. Spanning 35,000 square feet of educational exhibits, attractions, and a theatre, the MOST welcomes more than 130,000 visitors each year. Dedicated to inspiring curiosity and fostering a love of science and technology, the museum serves as a lively hub for families, children, and community members interested in interactive learning experiences. As an institution, the MOST prides itself on a welcoming and inclusive environment where teamwork, respect, and collaboration are core values. Employees at the museum are encouraged to lead and learn from one another, cultivating a culture grounded in transparency, dignity, and respect.
The role of Guest Services Representative at the MOST is pivotal in ensuring visitors have a memorable and positive experience. This part-time, in-person position involves working up to 21 hours a week with shifts scheduled from Wednesdays through Sundays, including occasional extra days during school breaks or special events. As a front-line staff member, the Guest Services Representative acts as the primary point of contact for museum visitors, members, and guests. The responsibilities include greeting and checking in visitors using a point-of-sale system, assisting with purchases at the Science Shop and concessions stand, selling museum memberships, ushering theatre shows, answering guest inquiries both in-person and by phone, assisting with birthday parties and special events, and providing support wherever needed to maintain smooth museum operations.
The ideal candidate for this role is someone with vibrant energy, an approachable demeanor, and exceptional customer service skills. A love for working with children and families is essential, as is the ability to create a warm and engaging atmosphere for everyone who walks through the doors. Previous experience in customer service or retail is preferred, and a high school diploma or equivalent is required. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $18.00 to $19.00 per hour, making it an attractive opportunity for individuals who thrive in interactive, guest-facing roles.
By joining the team at the MOST, employees become part of a community committed to excellence, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact through education and engagement. The museum fosters a spirit of connection and encourages staff to contribute to a culture where everyone feels present and valued. This role is an excellent avenue for those passionate about science education, customer service, and helping families create joyful memories. It also provides a dynamic work environment where team members support one another and grow professionally through their interactions and experiences at one of Syracuse's beloved cultural institutions.
