Job Description

Delta Air Lines is a leading global airline known for its commitment to connecting people and places around the world with exceptional service and reliability. With a long-standing reputation as a pioneer in the aviation industry, Delta continuously strives to deliver a seamless and elevated travel experience to millions of customers every year. As a major player in the airline sector, Delta is dedicated to fostering a culture rooted in care, integrity, resilience, and servant leadership, making it a great place to work and grow professionally. The company emphasizes employee well-being through competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and career development opportunities, ensuring its workforce is motivated and equipped to maintain high standards of performance and customer satisfaction.

The Ground Maintenance Technician (GMT) role at Delta Air Lines is a critical position within the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) team. This stationary role specializes in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic equipment essential for airport operations. The GMT ensures that motors, controls, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), pneumatic systems, conveyor systems, and machine shop equipment operate efficiently and with minimal downtime. By using technical manuals, schematics, diagrams, and manufacturer instructions, the GMT identifies equipment malfunctions and implements effective repairs, helping Delta maintain its operational excellence.

This role offers a minimum starting hourly wage of $36.22, with potential increases within six months based on earned certifications and shift differentials. Additionally, GMTs working at JFK airport benefit from a $5,000 sign-on bonus, split into payments after 90 and 180 days of employment. Employees based in New York City airports (JFK or LGA) can also receive transportation reimbursement up to $250 per month for public transit options.

The Ground Maintenance Technician's responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical issues by observing equipment in operation, using precision measuring tools like rulers, calipers, and micrometers to ensure parts meet dimensional specifications, and troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical systems. This involves maintaining inventories of parts and supplies, preparing detailed maintenance reports, and collaborating within the team to uphold safety and efficiency standards. The role demands proficiency in electrical systems such as 12 to 50 VAC/DC control circuits, 120 VAC single-phase electrical circuits, and 480 VAC three-phase systems, as well as specialized knowledge in PLC repair, industrial maintenance, conveyor systems, passenger loading bridges, industrial air conditioning and refrigeration, and 400 Hz generator ground power systems.

To be successful, candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED, be authorized to work in the United States, hold a valid driver's license, and be physically capable of lifting items weighing 50 to 70 pounds. The role requires working flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and completing entry tests to demonstrate the ability to perform required tasks. Ideal candidates bring strong communication skills, the ability to read and interpret technical documents, and a willingness to work safely and collaboratively in a diverse environment.

Delta Air Lines is committed to diversity and inclusion, offering employees holistic wellbeing programs, family care assistance, paid time off, and comprehensive health benefits. The company fosters a positive work environment supported by career development programs, recognition platforms, and opportunities to engage in community service and sustainability initiatives. For those passionate about aviation and mechanical systems, this position offers a rewarding career path with a stable and respected employer focused on shared success and employee growth.
