PAML, a Labcorp company, is currently seeking a skilled Grossing Technician to join its team in Tukwila, WA. The Grossing Technician role is vital to the histology laboratory operations as it involves the preparation, description, and dissection of surgical specimens that pathologists study to diagnose diseases. This position plays a critical role in ensuring specimens meet quality standards before being processed for diagnostic evaluation. The Grossing Technician is responsible for accurately grossing tissue samples, preparing histopathological slides, and maintaining laboratory instruments and logs following established protocols. Employees in this role work Monday through Friday from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm, with the potential for overtime and rotating weekends.

Candidates for this position should have an associate's degree in chemical or biological sciences, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, along with certification from recognized professional bodies such as ASCP or AMT. Experience in clinical laboratory testing and grossing is preferred but not mandatory. The role demands high attention to detail, proficiency with laboratory information systems, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume lab environment. Physical stamina is also necessary to meet the demands of specimen handling and workstation tasks.

Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
  • ASCP or AMT certification

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred
  • 3 months or more of grossing experience preferred
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides
  • Specialize in the accurate gross description and dissection of surgical specimens
  • Diagram pertinent gross specimens as necessary
  • Prepare sections of human tissue for pathologist diagnostic study
  • Operate laboratory instruments to properly display specimens
  • Perform equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Comply with applicable safety procedures and protocol
  • Effectively communicate with histology team members
