The CHEF'STORE Retail Department Lead role at US Foods is a full-time, overnight position with a starting pay rate of $18.32 per hour. This position includes opportunities for overtime compensation, reflecting the company's recognition of the importance of the role. The schedule typically runs from 12 AM to 9 AM with some weekends included. As a Retail Department Lead at CHEF'STORE, you play a crucial role in maintaining an atmosphere of superior customer service while supporting the US Foods strategy of Great Food, Made Easy. You will help lead all functions in multiple departments such as Dry Goods, Disposables, Culinary Equipment Supplies (CES), and Fresh departments as assigned by store management. Your leadership will ensure effective inventory levels, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, and delivering quality customer service.

This role includes Manager on Duty responsibilities during the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, including opening and closing the CHEF'STORE. Your ability to maintain a safe and well-maintained facility will contribute significantly to ensuring a safe environment for both staff and customers.

Your day-to-day duties as a Retail Department Lead will revolve around inventory management based on store capacity, promotions, customer requests, and seasonal merchandise, maximizing sales through superior customer service, freshness, and stock maintenance. You will be responsible for training, motivating, and developing staff to uphold these standards, ensuring appealing presentation and pricing and managing daily ordering and stock replenishment. You may also be tasked with cashier duties, cleaning, and assisting wherever needed.

The ideal candidate possesses a High School diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience in retail, restaurant, or customer service settings, with a preference for supervisory or lead experience. Proficiency with computer use, including word processing, email, and internet software, is required. Key skills include exceptional customer service orientation, good business judgment, common sense, logical thinking, and the ability to build professional relationships with customers. The willingness to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends is essential.

Physical requirements of this role include the ability to stand and walk continuously, occasional driving, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and performing movements such as stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and manual dexterity tasks. The work environment varies, occasionally exposing employees to outside weather, and temperature fluctuations ranging from -10 to 85 degrees within the store.

Job Duties

  • Leads all functions of the Dry, Disposables, and Culinary Equipment Supplies, and fresh departments as assigned by Store Management
  • Ensures effective inventory levels, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, and quality customer service
  • Serves as Manager on Duty in absence of Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager including opening and closing the store
  • Ensures proper inventory levels based on store capacity, promotions, customer requests, and seasonal merchandise
  • Completes all daily orders
  • Maximizes departmental sales by driving and maintaining superior customer service, freshness, and stocks
  • Trains, motivates, and develops staff to uphold standards
  • Ensures appealing presentation and pricing standards are maintained
  • Utilizes computer systems as needed
  • Stocks shelves, sets up displays, rings up merchandise and sales, and performs cleaning duties as needed
  • Role models and promotes company cultural beliefs
  • Ensures facility safety and maintenance, correcting safety issues and notifying management
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by Store Management
