The Grill Cook position at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, IN, is a vital role within Creative Dining Services. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred
- Knowledge of food safety practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Physical ability to perform kitchen duties including standing for extended periods
- Ready to work in uniform and on schedule
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous food preparation or grill cook experience preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- Team player with good communication skills
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks associated with cooking
- Basic understanding of inventory management
Job Duties
- Prepare food items according to established recipes and menus in a manner which preserves food freshness, quality and appeal
- Utilize batch cooking techniques to avoid over or under production
- Store food items according to established standards of practice
- utilize proper labeling and dating
- Hold prepared food items at appropriate temperatures (below 40 degrees if cold, above 135 degrees if hot)
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment at all times
- Follow established work rules and regulations
- ready for work in the kitchen, in uniform, at the scheduled time
- Putting away/Pulling stock as needed
