The company is steadfast in fostering growth opportunities and providing a robust environment that leverages the full potential of its workforce to drive innovation and excellence in service delivery. CNA offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support the physical, financial, emotional, and social wellbeing of employees and their families, reflecting its dedication to a holistic employee experience.
The position of Global Head of Life Sciences at CNA is an executive leadership role critical for driving the strategic vision and long-term success of the company’s Life Sciences business segment. This role entails leading an organization that is deeply specialized in the Life Sciences industry, which is recognized as one of the most innovative and rapidly evolving sectors in the global economy. The Global Head is responsible for developing and executing business strategies that enhance portfolio performance, underwriting excellence, and talent development to ensure sustainable growth, profitability, and competitive advantage.
The role involves direct accountability for the U.S. Small Business and Middle Market Life Sciences businesses and requires close collaboration with a broad network of internal functions including Distribution, Product, Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Risk Control, and Operations. By leveraging strong strategic insight and portfolio management expertise, the Global Head will champion underwriting standards, optimize risk selection, and drive quality assurance initiatives to maintain superior business performance. This position also demands a proactive approach to market engagement through strategic broker relationships and the development of sales and underwriting teams.
An ideal candidate for this role will be an accomplished underwriting executive with significant experience in leadership, strategic planning, and industry specialization. The Global Head will serve as a thought leader, providing consultative support and technical expertise to global counterparts and reinforcing CNA’s stature as a market leader in Life Sciences. Moreover, the role offers a unique opportunity to shape the company’s future by inspiring and developing high-performing teams, deepening industry partnerships, and delivering innovative, tailored solutions that address complex challenges in the Life Sciences market.
The role typically reports to senior vice president levels and above, indicating its executive status within the organization. The intended candidate will bring exceptional relationship-building skills, executive presence, and the ability to navigate complex business environments through sound judgment and effective decision-making. CNA expects candidates to have a bachelor's degree with a preference for a master's degree or equivalent in related disciplines, a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with at least seven years in management, and preferably hold the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
In certain jurisdictions such as California, New York, and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $194,000 to $308,000 annually, with compensation varying based on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and location. CNA also utilizes AI-enabled technology within its recruiting process to streamline hiring while committing to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. This role carries the potential to significantly impact CNA’s business trajectory by leading a specialized team toward continuous growth, innovation, and market leadership in the Life Sciences insurance sector.
