The role of General Laborer at Smithfield Foods is integral to the company’s mission of delivering safe, high-quality food products to consumers. Job Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Willingness and ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements including grasping and pinching
  • Ability to stand on concrete or platforms for up to 12-hour shifts
  • Capacity to work around animal blood and carcass parts
  • Ability to work with a knife if trained
  • Competence to work in cold and/or warm environments
  • Ability to work in wet and humid conditions
  • Must wear hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes
  • Ability to work in noisy environments with personal protective equipment
  • Capability to handle sanitation and cleaning chemicals
  • Must tolerate strong smells and odors
  • Ability to climb ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms
  • Capacity to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively during shifts
  • Ability to walk long distances
  • May require certification to operate certain equipment
  • Able to perform physically demanding work including lifting heavy objects with mechanical assistance if necessary

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment is preferred but not required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
