Job Description

The Kahala Hotel and Resort is a prestigious luxury hotel and resort located in Honolulu, HI, renowned for its serene setting between pristine white sand beaches and an exclusive private golf course that hosts an annual PGA Tournament. This iconic establishment is deeply committed to sustainability and the arts through its Kahala Initiative for Sustainability Culture and Arts (KISCA) program, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The Kahala Hotel and Resort is celebrated for its world-class hospitality, exceptional service, and dedication to creating unforgettable guest experiences that foster a longing to return. As a leader in the luxury hospitality sector, the resort offers an inspiring and dynamic work environment that values its employees as the cornerstone of its brand's success and guest satisfaction.

The General Manager/Sommelier position for Hoku's & Veranda represents a key leadership role within The Kahala Hotel and Resort. This role is responsible for the comprehensive management of Hoku’s fine dining restaurant and Veranda lounge, including the coveted afternoon tea service. The position requires a multifaceted leader with both strong operational expertise and specialized knowledge in wine. The ideal candidate will oversee daily operations, manage and develop staff, and ensure that every guest receives an exceptional dining experience reflective of the resort's high standards.

As the sommelier, the role involves curating and maintaining a distinguished wine program to complement the culinary offerings and ambiance of the dining venues. Responsibilities include selecting, purchasing, storing, and serving wines with precision and expertise. The General Manager/Sommelier must also engage in staff education, promoting a culture of wine appreciation through training and tastings, enhancing both service levels and guest enjoyment. This role is pivotal in maintaining the establishment's reputation for excellence by delivering personalized, attentive service, managing supplier relations, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

The position offers a competitive monthly compensation range between $6,167 and $6,437.50 and is categorized as full-time, exempt employment with flexible shift schedules. The role requires an individual with superior leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a passion for hospitality — someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment where guest experience is paramount. This role not only demands strong business acumen and fiscal management capabilities but also a refined palate and deep knowledge of wine to lead and innovate in beverage program offerings.

Candidates must demonstrate a bachelor's degree in hospitality management or a related field, preferably with significant experience in luxury hotel or fine dining restaurant management. Certified sommelier accreditation is required, alongside other certifications that emphasize guest safety and service excellence. The successful applicant will contribute significantly to the continuing legacy of The Kahala Hotel and Resort by delivering memorable dining experiences, fostering a vibrant team culture, and upholding the resort’s traditions of superior service, quality, and sustainability.
