Job Description

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is a well-established leader in the pet care industry, proudly serving pet parents and their beloved pets for over 60 years. Known as "where the pets go," Petco offers a comprehensive range of pet products and services including nutritious meals, engaging toys, trusted supplies, and expert advice. With more than 1,500 stores across the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, alongside over 250 Vetco Total Care hospitals and hundreds of preventive care clinics, Petco has made a significant mark in enhancing the lives of pets and their owners. Their commitment goes beyond retail; in 1999, they founded Petco Love, supporting thousands of local animal welfare groups and facilitating the adoption of approximately 7 million animals through in-store events.

The culture at Petco fosters inclusion, authenticity, and teamwork, with a passionate team of over 29,000 employees working together to support the vibrant pet-human bond. Their core values emphasize putting pets first, fostering fun through passion and connection, and embodying a united team spirit that champions individual strengths in pursuit of collective success. At Petco, employees find a purpose-driven workplace where they can bring their whole selves to work, nurture wellbeing, and create exciting career paths.

The role of General Manager at Petco is a pivotal leadership position centered on operating a high-performing Pet Care Center that prioritizes pets' health and happiness while delivering excellent customer service and strong business results. This full-time, in-store role entails owning the business operations, managing people, performance, and processes, and serving as an exemplary leader who models integrity and commitment to animal welfare. The General Manager leads by example on the sales floor, engaging with colleagues, customers, and pets alike to ensure a welcoming, supportive environment.

Responsibilities include championing pet health and safety, creating an inclusive and motivated team, driving sales growth, and managing expenses to maximize the store's profitability and operational excellence. This role requires keen financial and operational acumen, strong people management skills, and a passion for pets and customer service. The General Manager is also entrusted with community engagement initiatives, such as leading local events and adoption programs, thereby enhancing Petco's presence and impact in the local pet community.

The work environment is primarily retail-based, involving frequent standing, walking, and interacting directly with pets, customers, and team members. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and the capacity to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Petco values diversity and equal opportunity, making reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.

Joining Petco as a General Manager offers the opportunity to lead with purpose, develop a strong leadership team, and contribute meaningfully to a company that makes a real difference in the lives of pets and their people. Employees benefit from a culture that values authenticity and inclusion, comprehensive development programs, and a chance to shape the future of their business every day. Petco’s Total Rewards package further supports their employees' health, financial wellbeing, and work-life balance, reinforcing their commitment to making Petco an exceptional place to work.
