Job Description
HMSHost is a leading global hospitality company, passionately dedicated to delivering exceptional service in the travel, dining, and retail industries. With a broad portfolio of locations and a commitment to excellence, HMSHost offers its employees the training, resources, and advancement opportunities necessary to achieve their most important career goals. The company fosters a culture of engagement, appreciation, caring, and inclusive practices, emphasizing the importance of supporting each associate to be the best version of themselves. Recognized for competitive wages, robust benefits, and a strong recognition system, HMSHost creates a working environment where both employees and travelers feel great and valued. HMSHost's management philosophy centers on manager-coaches who guide and empower their teams through passion, openness to new ideas, adaptability, and a sincere focus on simplicity and results. This approach drives success through strong teams, enjoyable work environments, and a shared mission to ensure travelers and associates have positive experiences every day.
The General Manager II (GMII) position at HMSHost is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing a complex quick service restaurant (QSR) or casual dining restaurant, or a small cluster of restaurants with combined annual sales typically exceeding $4 million. Reporting typically to a Director of Operations or area leader, the GMII ensures the restaurant operates to high operational and financial standards, maintaining cleanliness, adequate staffing, and overall readiness for business. The role involves broad discretion and judgment to navigate daily challenges, lead staff effectively, and take responsibility for the restaurant's overall success.
Key responsibilities include ensuring proper opening and closing procedures are followed, managing staffing deployment to maximize profitability, and maintaining product availability and working equipment. The GMII also enforces brand standards, compliance with health and safety regulations, and creates a motivating atmosphere for employees by recognizing performance and offering consistent support and coaching. The role demands solid financial acumen, including managing profit and loss (P&L) and operational reports, while actively participating in company audits and managing vendor relationships.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years documented managerial experience in similar types of restaurants with overall relevant experience of 5-7 years, strong team management and issue resolution skills, and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities. Food Service Management or Culinary program graduation can offset some experience requirements. The GMII works a flexible, rotating schedule to cover various operating hours, including openings and closings, ensuring constant on-site leadership presence.
HMSHost provides substantial benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, meal and transportation benefits, 401(k) retirement plans with company match, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance programs, and training opportunities fostering career growth. The company emphasizes equal opportunity employment, inclusivity, and prohibits discrimination of any kind. Overall, the GMII role is ideal for a dynamic leader eager to drive operational excellence and build successful teams in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
