Job Description

The company is currently seeking a General Food Service Worker to join their team at Knoxville Catholic in Knoxville, TN. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of food preparation and service within one or more dining environments. The General Food Service Worker performs a variety of duties ranging from setting up service areas, preparing and/or serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions, to assisting with cashiering duties as needed. This position requires a hands-on approach and a willingness to perform a wide array of tasks to support both the kitchen and dining areas.

The General Food Service Worker’s responsibilities include setting up food service stations, kitchen, or salad areas according to detailed instructions. This includes preparing equipment and utensils, checking food temperatures, and making sure the area is ready for daily operations. The worker may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned, providing valuable assistance during meal preparation. Serving customers is also a significant part of the role, where the worker will serve food items from counters or steam tables, ensuring the proper portion sizes and replenishing supplies such as silverware, dishes, and condiments.

Maintaining cleanliness of the work environment is critical, and the role involves washing pots, pans, and serviceware with proper sanitary handling, cleaning floors and work areas, and managing trash and garbage collection. The position may also entail miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors. The role requires effective communication skills, especially the ability to understand and use the primary language of the guests visiting the work location, providing a welcoming and efficient service experience.

This position is a first-shift role with working hours from 8:30 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday. Job Duties

  • Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs
  • checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations
  • may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned
  • prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meals and beverages
  • serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served
  • replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations
  • may order and replenish condiments
  • cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, dishes, utensils, and equipment
  • collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers
  • washes pots, pans, and other serviceware ensuring sanitary handling
  • organizes and replaces serviceware to appropriate location
  • performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
