The General Food Service Worker role at University Of Saint Francis is a part-time position focused on a variety of duties related to food preparation and service. Individuals hired for this role will work predominantly on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with occasional weekend shifts depending on business needs and staffing requirements. The position involves hands-on involvement in all stages of food service operations, including setting up food service areas, preparing and serving hot and cold meals, supporting kitchen operations, and assisting with cashier duties when necessary. An important part of this role is working in the pizza station, where the employee will prepare pizzas based on established recipes, assist with ingredient preparation, and ensure the pizza station and nacho bar remain well-stocked and organized throughout service hours.

This role requires a flexible approach to work flow as employees will need to transition between pizza making and general kitchen duties effectively, adapting to the demand and volume of customers. Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment is critical, which includes cleaning work areas, utensils, equipment, and managing waste disposal. The role also demands excellent communication skills, the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and adherence to food safety and sanitation standards to ensure the highest quality of service.

Job Duties

  • sets up food service kitchen or salad area facilities equipment and utensils under detailed instruction in accordance with specific area needs
  • checks food temperatures or prepares areas for daily operations
  • may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned
  • prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meals and beverages
  • prepares and builds pizzas according to established recipes and quality standards
  • assists with preparing pizza sauces specialty toppings and ingredients while helping prep items for the nacho bar
  • monitors and restocks the pizza station and nacho bar throughout the day to ensure product availability
  • utilizes prior pizza-making experience to efficiently prepare pizzas adjust production based on customer demand and transition between pizza production and general food prep duties as business traffic dictates
  • may clean and maintain work areas including floors facilities dishes utensils and equipment
  • collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers as appropriate to the area of operation
  • washes pots pans and other service ware ensuring sanitary handling
  • organizes and replaces service ware to appropriate location
  • performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
