The current vacancy is for a Part-Time General Food Service Worker position at the Emergent BioSolutions Dining Center located in Lansing, MI. This role is integral to the smooth operation of the dining center, performing a wide variety of tasks involved in preparing and serving food and beverages across different food service settings. The General Food Service Worker contributes to both the preparation and service aspects of food handling, ensuring quality, safety, and customer satisfaction at all times.

In this role, the worker will assist in food prep, setup, and service activities. The position involves setting up food service areas and equipment in accordance with specific instructions, maintaining appropriate food temperatures, and preparing areas to meet daily operational requirements. This might include operating cooking or bakery equipment as assigned. The worker will prepare or assist in the preparation of hot and cold meals and beverages, demonstrating versatility in kitchen operations.

Serving food to customers is a key responsibility, which includes portion control and replenishing foods and supplies such as silverware, glassware, dishes, trays, and condiments at serving stations to maintain seamless service. Cashiering duties may also be required depending on operational needs. The role requires a strong focus on cleanliness and sanitation, including cleaning and maintaining work areas, floors, equipment, utensils, and serviceware. The General Food Service Worker will also handle waste disposal, ensuring garbage and trash are sorted into designated containers to maintain a clean workplace.

Job Duties

  • sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs
  • checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations
  • may operate cooking or bakery equipment as assigned
  • prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meals and beverages
  • serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served
  • replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations
  • may order and replenish condiments
  • cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, dishes, utensils, and equipment
  • collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers
  • washes pots, pans, and other serviceware ensuring sanitary handling
  • organizes and replaces serviceware to appropriate location
  • performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
