Job Description

Glenallan Elementary School, located in Silver Spring, is a part of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system, which is renowned for its commitment to excellence in education and holistic development of students. As a public elementary school, Glenallan ES serves a diverse student population and emphasizes creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for learning. The school offers various programs and services aimed at enhancing student welfare and academic success. It values cooperation among staff, students, and community members to create an enriching educational atmosphere. Within this dynamic setting, food and nutrition services play a critical role in maintaining the health and well-being of students, ensuring they receive nutritious meals that support their learning and growth. MCPS Food Services is recognized for its dedication to providing safe, nutritious, and appealing meals that adhere to strict nutritional standards and hygiene regulations. The department operates with the mission of promoting healthful eating habits and supporting the overall educational experience of the students by delivering meals efficiently and responsibly.

The position of Food Services Satellite Manager III at Glenallan Elementary School is a pivotal role within the school’s food and nutrition services team. This is a part-time role, involving a 7-hour workday, 10 months per year, with an approximate bi-weekly commitment of 70 hours. The wage range for this position is between $22.68 and $31.83 per hour, reflecting the responsibilities and expertise required. The role reports technically to the food services supervisor or field manager and operationally receives general supervision from the school principal or their designee. Satellite Managers are essential in overseeing the daily production and serving of food supplied from a central production facility to the satellite location, ensuring quality and compliance with health and safety standards. This involves routine kitchen operations, including cleaning, managing inventory, ordering supplies, and supervising other cafeteria workers in larger schools. The Satellite Manager III classification corresponds to schools with higher average daily participation in food services, indicating a greater level of responsibility in managing cafeteria operations effectively.

This position requires candidates to have passed the MCPS Food Services Satellite Manager test within the past two years or hold a current Food Services Manager position, along with a sanitation certification. The manager must be competent in following HACCP guidelines for food safety, nutrition principles, and standard sanitation procedures. Operational duties include cashiering, managing bank deposits and cash accountability, and utilizing computer point-of-sale systems. The role demands strong communication, training, and human relations skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and the wider community under constant deadlines. Additionally, the role requires a valid Maryland noncommercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent since some personal vehicle use may be needed for banking errands, with reimbursement provided for mileage. The physical demands of the job include the ability to perform moderate physical tasks such as moving objects weighing 40-60 pounds, standing continuously, and working under varied temperature conditions. This position aligns with the Supporting Services Professional Growth System core competencies and offers opportunities for professional development within the MCPS food services framework.
