Job Description
Louer is a prestigious and well-established family that operates across multiple residences in the United States, including locations in Lake Forest, Illinois, the Adirondack Mountains in New York, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The family values privacy, excellence, and a refined lifestyle, which extends into their professional hiring practices. The family office manages a fully staffed informal to semi-formal household including housekeepers, property managers, and house managers, all working together to maintain a seamless living and entertaining experience. Louer is currently seeking a highly experienced, creative, and professional full-time private chef to join their growing domestic team and serve the family across their primary residences throughout the year. This position represents an extraordinary opportunity for a culinary professional with a passion for healthy, clean eating and exclusivity in service. The role is full-time and offers a lucrative salary exceeding $250,000 annually, complemented by comprehensive health insurance benefits including dental and vision coverage, paid vacation, as well as a discretionary annual bonus based on performance evaluations. The employment arrangement requires flexibility and a willingness to travel and reside in multiple locations seasonally – specifically Salt Lake City, Utah, from January to March including the second half of December; Adirondack Mountains, New York during the summer and early fall months; and Lake Forest, Illinois for spring, late fall, and occasional December weeks. A detailed schedule will be provided well in advance to facilitate planning and adjustment.
The private chef will be a pivotal figure in the family’s day-to-day life, responsible for crafting and preparing from-scratch meals that adhere to specific dietary needs such as gluten-free and celiac disease-related restrictions, ensuring that ingredients are organic and meals are clean and healthy. The role demands creativity in menu planning for the family members, including grown children and guests, and the organization for private events or holidays that may sometimes require more formal service. A comprehensive understanding of contemporary culinary trends is desirable to keep the menus innovative and appealing. The ideal candidate will exhibit expert knowledge in food preparation and presentation, upholding the highest standards of hygiene and kitchen maintenance.
The private chef must also navigate a sophisticated household dynamic with discretion, professionalism, and a calm demeanor, collaborating effectively with family office personnel and residential staff. They will also be responsible for stocking pantries, managing kitchen inventory, sourcing fresh ingredients, and maintaining kitchen equipment to ensure smooth operations. Uniform standards are expected, reflecting a professional image aligned with the family's lifestyle. Accommodations and transportation will be provided at all residences to support seamless mobility and comfort.
Candidates must possess a culinary certificate or degree, a bachelor’s degree, and have 5 to 10 plus years of consistent, recent experience as a private chef in domestic settings. They must be proactive, organized, flexible, and service-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work under confidentiality agreements. A non-smoking status and physical fitness are required, alongside a clean driving record and valid U.S. passport. Extensive background checks and evaluations are part of the hiring process, emphasizing the family's commitment to safety and trustworthiness. The family seeks a long-term professional committed to longevity in the role, ideally staying for at least 2 to 5 plus years.
This newly created role within Louer’s domestic team offers an exciting career opportunity for a dedicated private chef to contribute to and shape the family’s culinary and hospitality experiences at a very high level. The position’s complexity and prestige make it ideal for an experienced culinary professional who values working in elite private household environments and is seeking a rewarding, well-compensated career with meaningful responsibilities and the chance for professional growth.
