The Museum of Life and Science, located in the heart of the Triangle, is a renowned cultural and educational institution dedicated to fostering curiosity, learning, and discovery. As a beloved destination for families and individuals alike, the Museum offers immersive exhibits, interactive learning experiences, and a vibrant atmosphere that encourages visitors to explore the wonders of science and nature. The Museum not only prioritizes education and engagement but also provides exceptional services and amenities to enhance the overall guest experience. Among these is a lively retail environment featuring unique merchandise and a cozy coffee bar, serving expertly crafted beverages that keep both guests and staff energized throughout the day.
We are currently seeking a Full-Time Retail Operations Associate and Barista to join our dynamic Retail team. This regular full-time position reports to the Retail Operations Assistant Manager and offers an exciting opportunity to become an integral part of one of the Triangle's most popular destinations. The role is designed for individuals who possess a passion for great coffee, exceptional customer service, and attention to detail. As a Retail Operations Associate and Barista, you will be responsible for supporting the Museum's mission by delivering welcoming, engaging experiences that delight every guest visiting the Museum stores and coffee bar.
In this capacity, you will play a critical role in maintaining high standards for service quality, cleanliness, merchandising, food safety, inventory management, and cash handling. The position requires a well-rounded professional capable of multitasking efficiently and working both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. Key tasks will revolve around providing knowledgeable and friendly service, preparing specialty drinks to exacting quality recipes, and ensuring the retail environment is consistently well-stocked and visually appealing.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate barista expertise, superior drink-building skills, and an ability to manage the operational flow of the retail and coffee spaces seamlessly. You will be expected to open and close retail spaces following departmental protocols, monitor and rotate inventory to preserve product freshness, and adhere strictly to applicable health and safety standards. Safety at the workplace is a top priority, requiring compliance with all Museum policies.
Additionally, this role demands excellent communication skills to engage positively with guests, volunteers, and fellow staff in order to create a welcoming atmosphere that supports the Museum’s Strategic Plan objectives. Physical stamina is necessary, as the role involves standing for up to nine hours, performing repetitive hand motions, and maneuvering within retail and storage spaces.
This position offers a set schedule that includes weekend and occasional evening shifts, reflecting the Museum’s commitment to providing consistent service during peak visitor times. Whether you are an experienced barista or a dedicated customer service professional looking to expand your skills in a vibrant cultural setting, the Full-Time Retail Operations Associate and Barista role at the Museum of Life and Science offers rewarding experiences and opportunities to grow within a supportive team environment.
