Job Description
Food Lion has been a trusted grocery retailer since 1957, providing an easy, fresh, and affordable shopping experience to communities across the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. With a workforce of approximately 82,000 associates, Food Lion serves over 10 million customers every week through its numerous stores. The company has built a strong reputation based on convenience, quality, and customer-centric service, which is reflected in its commitment to delivering value and freshness in every shopping visit.
Food Lion is currently seeking a skilled and motivated professional to support store operations as a Deli Bakery HMS Manager at their Mechanicsville, VA location. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the efficient management of the deli and bakery department and aligning operational activities with the company's strategic goals. This position is designed to empower candidates who are passionate about retail food service, customer engagement, and team leadership to thrive in a dynamic store environment.
As a Deli Bakery HMS Manager, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the daily functions of the deli and bakery sections in the absence of the deli manager. This includes supervising associates, managing the department’s labor costs, and ensuring that all customer service standards are met or exceeded. The role requires a hands-on approach to managing associate productivity, coaching, and motivation to promote a positive work culture aligned with Food Lion’s brand strategy. You will also be a key player in meeting budgeted financial and operating goals, supporting sales growth through outstanding merchandising, customer service, and efficient management of resources.
The position demands a thorough understanding of store operations, merchandising techniques, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. You will utilize company tools such as financial reports, scheduling systems, and inventory management software like the Average Cost Inventory System (ACIS) to maintain operational efficiency and product quality. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring safety protocols are followed, unsafe conditions are promptly addressed, and all regulatory requirements at local, state, and federal levels are met consistently.
This role is ideal for candidates with a background in retail food operations who can multitask, lead teams effectively, and produce results that positively impact customer satisfaction and store performance. You will maintain an inviting shopping environment through well-organized inventory, appropriate ordering and receiving of merchandise, and attractive product displays. Furthermore, you will be expected to handle administrative tasks such as accident reporting, scheduling, loss prevention, and adherence to company standards regarding appearance and conduct.
Food Lion emphasizes continuous learning and development, so successful candidates will be expected to complete required Computer Based Training (CBT) and other training modules promptly, as well as maintain certification as a Certified Food Safety Manager. Physical capabilities are also essential, including the ability to handle heavy loads, stand for extended periods, and work under variable temperature conditions.
If you are a results-driven individual who values teamwork, customer service excellence, and operational precision, this opportunity at Food Lion in Mechanicsville offers a chance to grow your career in one of the leading grocery retailers in the region. Join a team that is dedicated to innovation, community service, and superior retail experiences where your contributions make a tangible difference every day.
