The role available at Food Lion's store located at 4925 Boonesboro Rd, Lynchburg, VA, is for a leadership position supporting the Deli Bakery HMS Department. This position is critical in ensuring store operations meet financial and sales goals while promoting strong associate and customer relations. The role includes supporting daily management activities in the absence of the Deli Manager, maintaining high standards for department appearance, food safety, and customer service. The individual in this role will be responsible for managing labor, coaching associates for productivity, and fostering a positive work culture aligned with Food Lion’s brand strategy.

Key responsibilities involve overseeing ordering, receiving, preparation, and display of merchandise, ensuring compliance with company policies and pertinent regulations, and maintaining safety standards for both associates and customers. The leadership role requires proactive communication with the management team and store associates, efficient use of company tools such as financial reports and inventory systems, as well as maintaining department security and sanitation standards. The candidate will also contribute toward controlling expenses and minimizing inventory shrinkage through effective supervision and training. This position demands physical endurance and the ability to perform various manual tasks, including handling inventory and warehouse equipment.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to use computers and communication systems to perform job functions
  • Ability to push or pull up to 2000 pounds using a pallet jack
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lbs continuously, 25 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs on occasion
  • Stand 100% of the time with frequent walking
  • Handle cleaning and packaging materials
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
  • Frequent reaching and grasping at various levels
  • Meet established volume activity standards
  • Tolerate working in extreme hot or cold temperatures up to 20 minutes
  • Have sufficient visual ability to check documents

Job Qualifications

  • A high school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques preferred
  • Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems
  • Must meet minimum age requirements to perform job functions
  • Accredited as a Certified Food Safety Manager or ability to achieve accreditation within 90 days

Job Duties

  • Manage the Deli Bakery HMS Department in the absence of the Deli Manager including supervising the performance of all duties of Deli Bakery HMS Associates
  • Daily management of labor and coaching associates to achieve productivity expectation
  • Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of Brand Strategy and Culture
  • Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results
  • Maintain enthusiastic customer awareness with fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service
  • Role model friendly customer service and use knowledge of department products to offer solutions
  • Control store expenses through proper ordering, care for supplies and equipment
