Job Description

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a globally recognized religious organization dedicated to spreading the message of Jesus Christ and providing spiritual guidance to millions around the world. Beyond its core religious missions, the Church employs a diverse workforce to support various operational needs, thereby allowing its members and patrons to focus on their spiritual obligations. One such operational area is the provision of food services within Church facilities, including temples and meetinghouses. This sector plays a crucial supporting role by ensuring that both Church employees and temple patrons have access to simple, affordable, and quality meals in a welcoming environment. The Church cafeteria staff help maintain a hospitable atmosphere conducive to worship and service, indirectly supporting the greater mission of bringing souls unto Jesus Christ.

The position of Cafeteria Employee is integral to this effort, offering a combination of food preparation, service, and facility upkeep responsibilities. Working under the guidance of senior cooks and chefs, cafeteria employees prepare a variety of food items ranging from simple to moderately complex dishes such as entrees, soups, salads, and baked goods. These individuals contribute to the operation by assisting in the organization and maintenance of the food service area, handling food safely and efficiently, and providing courteous service to all patrons. The role requires adeptness in basic cooking skills including cold food preparation like salad bars and sandwiches, cooking and reheating simple recipes, and baking items such as cookies and pastries.

This position also involves careful inventory management practices, such as waste control, proper food rotation using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method, and ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and cafeteria areas. Employees may also be responsible for receiving and storing food orders, helping to maintain accurate inventory and minimize waste. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, demanding punctuality, physical stamina including the ability to lift or maneuver items up to 40 pounds, and the capacity to work standing for entire shifts while performing repetitive tasks.

The Church values the diversity, dedication, and commitment of all its employees. Individuals employed in this role not only contribute to daily operational excellence but also partake in a broader mission of service. Furthermore, employment with the Church requires worthiness as demonstrated by possession of a current temple recommend, reflecting the spiritual integrity and commitment expected of all Church employees.

Overall, the Cafeteria Employee position offers an opportunity to serve in a supportive capacity within a faith-based work environment that respects individual talents and contributions. This role is ideal for those with previous experience in food preparation who possess good communication skills, attention to detail, and a courteous nature geared toward serving others. The Church provides equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodations in accordance with applicable laws, committing to a fair and respectful workplace for every employee.
