The Cashier role at Specs Family Partners is central to providing extraordinary shopping experiences and exceptional service at the checkout. This position requires individuals who are friendly, reliable, and committed to the company mission by actively demonstrating core values daily. Cashiers are responsible for greeting guests warmly using established scripts, operating cash registers and scanners with accuracy, and managing financial transactions including cash, checks, and cards. They also ensure proper pricing, redeem coupons, weigh produce, and monitor merchandise to guarantee accurate charges. A significant part of the role includes engaging with guests through suggestive selling techniques and promoting charitable giving opportunities. The Cashier must maintain a neat workspace, manage inventory preparations, assist with customer carry-outs, and handle cash drops and drawer counts meticulously. Physical stamina is essential as the job involves standing for long shifts, occasional lifting of heavy items (up to 50 pounds or more), and the manual task of stocking shelves. Additionally, candidates must comply with safety regulations and maintain a professional demeanor while avoiding distractions such as personal cell phone use during work hours. The position requires a minimum age of 21 due to state laws and the holding of specific permits such as the TABC Beverage Sellers Permit and possibly a Food Handlers Permit. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy a lively retail environment, have strong interpersonal skills, and can manage stress effectively. Employment types include full-time (typically 35 hours a week) or part-time (up to 25 hours a week), with mandatory availability during peak times like weekend shifts. Job Requirements

  • must be over the age of 21
  • ability to stand for most of the shift and occasionally bend and walk
  • ability to use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally using proper techniques
  • ability to push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally
  • ability to see product and payment methods clearly
  • comply with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA
  • availability to work any shift on Friday or Saturday
  • availability for at least 80 percent of all shifts each week
  • attendance and timeliness required
  • willingness to complete TABC course with company support

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • cashiering experience preferred but willing to train
  • ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions
  • effective communication skills with coworkers and guests
  • bilingual skills are a plus
  • ability to perform basic mathematical operations and calculate discounts
  • responsible, reliable, and committed to extraordinary customer service
  • patient, friendly, and outgoing personality
  • self-starter with a strong work ethic

  • ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions

Job Duties

  • know and actively demonstrate company mission statement and core values daily
  • maintain uniform standards for all worked hours
  • greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor using guest services script
  • operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products for UPC codes or prices
  • ensure proper pricing by scanning correct barcode
  • properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment
  • suggestively sell items and promote charity of the month
  • monitor merchandise for accurate charges
  • redeem coupons and weigh produce
  • ask guests to answer pin pad questions before transactions
  • check identification as required
  • receive transactions via cash, check, debit, credit, or gift cards
  • issue receipts and change accurately
  • bag or box merchandise appropriately
  • assist with carry-outs as needed
  • compute and record daily transaction totals
  • call for cash drops to maintain till balance
  • keep work area clean and organized
  • count down drawer at shift end and prepare final drop
  • answer guest questions and resolve complaints courteously
  • avoid personal conversations and cell phone use on sales floor
  • stock shelves and check price tags as needed
  • monitor checkout station supplies
  • prepare for and assist with inventory
  • follow management directives efficiently
  • fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail
  • practice teamwork and cooperation
  • manage time and prioritize tasks
  • handle physical demands including lifting and pushing
  • adhere to company and OSHA safety regulations
  • perform other assigned duties including restroom cleaning when necessary
  • maintain attendance and timeliness
