The French Pastry Chef position is a unique opportunity to showcase your artisan skills in a brand new gourmet French food and delicatessen outlet located at 1100 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. This role is vital in supporting the Executive Chef by delivering high-quality French pastry creations as part of the restaurant's culinary offerings. The restaurant accommodates a seating capacity of 75-100 guests, providing a bustling yet intimate environment for showcasing refined pastry arts. You will be responsible not only for preparing and producing pastries but also for managing inventory and orders while ensuring compliance with HACCP guidelines and food safety standards. This position demands expertise in French culinary techniques, a creative approach to menu development, and the ability to maintain a sanitary, safe, and organized work environment. The salary range is competitive at $100,000 to $110,000 per year, supplemented by various benefits. This role also entails managing floor staff within the pastry department including hiring, coaching, and development, ensuring a motivated and knowledgeable team. The French Pastry Chef must have a passion for seasonal ingredients and food trends, demonstrating both quality and innovation in pastry preparation for a high-volume, upscale setting.

Job Requirements

  • French culinary training required
  • minimum three years of French pastry experience in upscale, high-volume environments
  • ability to demonstrate creative and quality-driven pastry skills
  • good food knowledge and recognition of quality products
  • knowledge of current industry trends
  • excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • compliance with HACCP guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • French culinary training
  • minimum three years of related French pastry experience in an upscale, high-volume restaurant
  • strong knowledge of quality food products
  • creative pastry skills
  • knowledge of food and catering trends focusing on seasonal ingredients
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • knowledge of safe and sanitary food handling principles
  • ServSafe or Department of Health certification is a plus

Job Duties

  • Prepare, produce, and oversee daily operations of the pastry department
  • manage inventory and place orders for pastry ingredients and supplies
  • manage the high-volume wholesale operations
  • properly handle, prepare, and store perishable products according to food safety standards
  • maintain strict compliance with HACCP guidelines and all health and sanitation regulations
  • ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • support menu development and pastry presentation
