The Cook II role at Children's Health is an integral part of the Food Services Department, located on-site in Dallas. This full-time position offers flexible shifts, including options from 6 am to 2:30 pm, 9 am to 5:30 pm, or 4 pm to 1:30 am, with rotating weekends to best accommodate the operational needs of the department. The Cook II is responsible for preparing food items following standardized recipes and is expected to have the creative ability to adjust or develop recipes to maintain high-quality food standards. This role involves more than cooking; it encompasses portioning, arranging, and garnishing food for both retail displays and specialized catering events, ensuring presentation aligns with the exceptional standards of Children's Health. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Cook II will work closely with Cook I staff, providing guidance and support to foster a cohesive team environment. Additionally, the position entails assisting the Sous Check with planning and coordinating kitchen activities to maintain efficient operations.
This position requires an individual with at least two years of experience in food services, with a preference for candidates who bring five or more years of expertise. The ideal candidate holds at least a high school diploma or GED, with a culinary degree considered an advantage. A critical requirement is obtaining and maintaining a Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of hire, underscoring the importance of food safety and sanitation in this role. The Cook II will also be responsible for operating a variety of kitchen equipment while maintaining cleanliness and adherence to health standards throughout the food preparation process, ensuring foods meet the highest marks for quality, freshness, taste, and appearance.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Culinary degree preferred
- At least 2 years of previous experience in food services required
- Ability to obtain Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of hire and maintain it thereafter
- Willingness to work full-time shifts including rotating weekends
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment and follow recipes accurately
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Physical ability to stand and work in a fast-paced kitchen environment for extended periods
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Prepare food based on recipe instructions and customer requests
- Follow catering orders to determine type and quantity of food needed
- Make adjustments to food items to accommodate guests with allergies
- Portion, arrange, and garnish food for display in retail locations and catering orders
- Assist in training Cook I staff
- Collaborate and support Cook I to ensure recipes are followed and prep work is complete
- Operate various kitchen equipment
- Assist Sous Check with planning, coordination, and other tasks as assigned
- Maintain cleanliness and proper operation of all kitchen equipment
- Observe and maintain required sanitary levels throughout the food preparation process
- Ensure that foods meet standards for quality, freshness, taste, and appearance
