The Luskin Conference Center (LCC) is a premier 300,000-square-foot, seven-story conference and lodging facility located on the UCLA campus. This distinguished center features 254 guest rooms, approximately 25,000 square feet of versatile meeting space, a 160-seat restaurant, a fully equipped fitness center, and a business center designed to support the needs of both academic and professional visitors. The LCC serves as a vital academic meeting and conference destination, integral to UCLA's mission to foster education and research. The environment here is unique in emphasizing quality service in a no-tipping atmosphere, enhancing the guest experience in a professional and welcoming setting.

The role of Restaurant Server at the Luskin Conference Center is key to providing guests with top-level dining experiences. This position requires delivering courteous, timely, and gracious service in a variety of dining situations including as wait staff, buffet attendants, and bar and lounge service. The Restaurant Server plays an essential role in representing the center’s hospitality standards by serving food and alcoholic beverages responsibly while making knowledgeable menu and beverage recommendations to guests. In addition to ensuring guest satisfaction, the Restaurant Server must exhibit professionalism, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to handle customer concerns with composure. This dynamic position involves working in a fast-paced hospitality environment where efficiency and friendly interactions are essential. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six to twelve months experience as a food server in restaurant settings
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations respectfully and culturally responsively
  • Must remain calm under pressure and customer dissatisfaction
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English
  • Ability to work efficiently under fluctuating workloads
  • Ability to prepare beverages and perform simple food preparation
  • Comply with safety and sanitation standards
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to interact positively with guests and team members
  • Preferred knowledge of culinary techniques and alcoholic beverages
  • TIPS California Responsible Beverage Server Certification preferred
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Background check required
  • Live Scan background check required before employment
  • Must complete satisfactory pre-placement physical
  • Availability to work varying schedules including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary

Job Qualifications

  • Six to twelve months experience as a food server in a restaurant, casual or fine dining setting
  • One or more years guest service experience in a fast-paced, high-end restaurant preferred
  • Ability to engage respectfully and culturally responsively with diverse populations
  • Ability to remain calm during customer dissatisfaction
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, fluctuating workload environment
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare beverages and perform simple food preparation tasks
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
  • Basic math skills for processing payments
  • Skills in positive guest interaction using body language and active listening
  • Working knowledge of basic culinary techniques preferred
  • Familiarity with alcoholic beverages including beer, wine, and spirits preferred

Job Duties

  • Provide courteous and professional service to guests during dining experiences
  • Serve as wait staff, buffet attendant, and bar and lounge service personnel
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in compliance with regulations
  • Make menu and beverage recommendations and answer guest inquiries
  • Ensure timely delivery of food and beverage items to guests
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining and beverage areas
  • Comply with safety and sanitation standards and procedures
