Job Description
The Luskin Conference Center (LCC) is a distinguished academic meeting and conference destination located on the UCLA campus, offering a dynamic and contemporary space that supports the university's education and research mission. Spanning an impressive 300,000 square feet and comprising seven stories, the LCC houses 254 guest rooms, approximately 25,000 square feet of versatile meeting space, a 160-seat restaurant, a fitness center, and a business center. This multi-functional venue combines the convenience of luxury accommodation with excellent conference and leisure facilities, making it a preferred choice for academic, professional, and social events within the UCLA community and beyond.
Operating as a no-tipping environment, the Luskin Conference Center emphasizes exceptional service standards that align with the values and expectations of its diverse patronage. The center is designed to offer guests a seamless, comfortable, and professional experience whether they are attending a conference, enjoying a meal, or utilizing the amenities provided.
The Restaurant Host position at Plateia Restaurant within the LCC is a customer-centric role that focuses on ensuring superior guest services for the restaurant, its lounge, and bar areas. This role invites motivated individuals who can uphold the center's commitment to professionalism and hospitality by greeting guests warmly, seating them swiftly, and coordinating service with efficiency and courtesy. As the first point of contact for guests, the Restaurant Host plays a key role in fostering an inviting atmosphere that encourages return visits.
Your responsibilities will include monitoring open and seated sections of the restaurant and bar, managing guest wait times, answering phone calls, processing reservations, and communicating effectively with kitchen staff, managers, and other team members to meet guest expectations and operational demands. You will be expected to keep track of reservation and occupancy charts, notify management and chefs of any groups, issues, or feedback, and handle guest concerns professionally. This position requires a calm demeanor, cultural sensitivity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience in a full-service restaurant as a host or cashier is essential.
Furthermore, the role demands proficiency in standard business software and food service applications, a good command of English, strong math skills for handling transactions, and the ability to interact positively with guests and colleagues. Knowledge of culinary basics and alcoholic beverages, while preferred, will be advantageous in delivering an enhanced guest experience.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about hospitality, with an ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations and maintain composure under pressure. The role’s schedule is varied, requiring availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and potential overtime to meet departmental needs. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and successfully pass background checks, including a Live Scan, along with a pre-placement physical examination. UCLA offers a full pay range and competitive benefits starting from day one, considering factors such as experience, education, skills, and certifications when determining salary offers.
