Job Description
Greenville Technical College (GTC) is a prominent institution of higher learning located in South Carolina, known for its commitment to providing quality education and fostering an inclusive campus environment. As one of the largest technical colleges in the state, GTC plays a vital role in empowering students through diverse academic programs, workforce training, and community services. The college emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas and encourages a respectful culture that celebrates the unique backgrounds and perspectives of its students, faculty, and staff. GTC is also a tobacco-free institution, demonstrating its commitment to health and wellness for everyone on campus. The college offers a wide range of faculty and staff positions, reflecting the diverse needs of its academic and support departments, including the Child Development Center (CDC) where this position is based.
The Food Services Specialist II role at Greenville Technical College’s CDC-Child Development Center is an engaging and critical position designed to support the nutritional needs of children served by the center. This full-time role, paid within the state salary band GEN03, offers a salary range anticipated between $29,000 and $36,300 annually, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, located on the Thomas E. Barton Campus. The ideal candidate for this role will be instrumental in ensuring that meals and snacks served at the CDC meet stringent nutritional guidelines, including those established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), the Department of Social Services (DSS), and Additional Breakfast Component (ABC) guidelines.
The Food Services Specialist II is responsible for planning menus that promote balanced nutrition and comply with established childcare and food service standards. This includes daily preparation and serving of meals and snacks to young children, alongside the development and maintenance of a food service procurement and inventory plan that aligns with budgetary constraints. Accurate record-keeping and reporting for CACFP compliance are essential components of this role, ensuring that the program operates efficiently and meets all regulatory and funding requirements.
Maintaining sanitary conditions in food preparation and storage areas is a vital responsibility, supporting the health and safety of children and staff. The individual in this position will also serve as a communication bridge between the CDC and parents regarding the nutrition program, fostering trust and transparency. This role requires a blend of culinary skills, organizational talents, and interpersonal abilities to execute the food service program effectively within a child development setting.
Candidates should bring prior experience in quantity and quality cooking or bakery work as a minimum, while preferred qualifications include experience in food preparation within a child development center environment, familiarity with CACFP guidelines, and completion of a post-secondary food service program. Greenville Technical College promotes equal opportunity employment principles and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, ensuring fair inclusion without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin.
