Job Description

Albertus Magnus College, located in New Haven, Connecticut, is a private liberal arts institution known for its commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. The college prides itself on providing students, faculty, and staff with a supportive atmosphere that encourages academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement. Situated at 700 Prospect Street, the campus offers various services to meet the diverse needs of its students and staff, including dining facilities operated in partnership with Chartwells Higher Education, a division of Compass Group. Chartwells Higher Ed is a leading food service provider specializing in campus dining programs across the United States, known for prioritizing quality, innovation, and sustainability in their services. They are dedicated to creating positive dining experiences that nourish both the body and mind while supporting the broader educational mission of the campuses they serve.

We are currently seeking a part-time Food Service Worker/Cashier to join the campus dining team at Albertus Magnus College. This role is designed for individuals who have prior experience in cashiering, customer service, and front-of-house operations and who are eager to contribute to a dynamic and customer-focused environment. The position offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $16.94 per hour, with flexible working hours that may include weekends, making it an excellent opportunity for students, part-timers, or anyone looking for a rewarding role with variable shifts. The employer is willing to provide training, emphasizing their commitment to employee development and growth. The Food Service Worker/Cashier will play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation, preparing ingredients, serving customers, handling sales transactions, and ensuring that the dining area remains clean and well-stocked.

The role involves a variety of tasks including general prep work such as washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables, managing ingredient portions according to recipes and safety standards, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the dining service operations. Cash handling is a significant responsibility in this position, requiring accuracy and integrity when processing sales, making change, handling various payment methods, and balancing the cash drawer. Interpersonal skills are also essential, as the role involves engaging with customers to provide friendly and efficient service, resolving complaints diplomatically, and supporting supervisors with relevant information to facilitate smooth operations.

Working at Albertus Magnus College through Chartwells Higher Ed is not just a job; it is a chance to be part of a team that values diversity, inclusion, and empowerment. Employees are offered opportunities for training and development, retirement plans, and access to various health and wellness programs, among other benefits. The work environment respects and promotes fairness regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or any other protected classification. As a food service worker/cashier, you will contribute meaningfully to campus life by ensuring that fellow students and staff enjoy quality, safe, and satisfying meal experiences. This role supports the mission of the college and Compass Group alike to create a positive, engaging community where everyone can thrive. Applicants should be prepared for potential temporary layoffs during academic breaks when food service demands may be reduced, though year-round work options may be available depending on business needs.
