Located at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, California, Epicurean Group is currently hiring for both full-time and part-time Food Service Worker/Cashier positions. The Food Service Worker/Cashier position involves a variety of duties essential to maintaining smooth daily operations within the food service environment. Employees in this role are responsible for cashiering duties, food preparation, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring excellent customer service. Specifically, associates will engage in prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables, weighing and measuring ingredients, and distributing supplies and portable equipment. Additionally, food storage, cleaning, and compliance with safety and sanitation standards are critical aspects of the job.

Customer interaction is a focal point in this role, as associates serve customers efficiently, handle sales transactions, make change, process payments including declining balance cards, and resolve customer complaints courteously. The position requires handling cash drawers with accuracy to prevent overages and shortages, maintaining stock of condiments, beverages, and supplies, and adhering to company portion control standards for food quality and serving temperatures.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum one year of previous experience in food service or related roles required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting pans and equipment safely
  • Availability to work full-time or part-time with varying days and hours as scheduled

  • Ability to maintain customer service excellence in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to pass any required background screening and drug testing

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in food service or cashier roles
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Perform prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting and seeding fruits and vegetables
  • Weigh and measure designated ingredients
  • Carry pans, kettles and trays of food to and from work stations, stove and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards
  • Distribute supplies, utensils and portable equipment
  • Store foods in designated areas in accordance with wrapping, dating and food safety and rotation procedures
  • Clean work areas, equipment and utensils
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements
  • Use approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures and standard portion control
  • Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service
  • Interact with customers and resolve customer complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Relay relevant information to supervisor
  • Perform sales transactions
  • Enter sales into the cash register to ensure purchases are accurately recorded
  • Make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable forms of payment
  • Issue receipts to customers
  • Follow standard procedures for issuing cash refunds
  • Responsible for all assigned change funds and cash receipts, ensuring that cash drawer is in compliance with overage/shortage standards
  • Replenish condiments, beverages and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness
  • Perform other duties as assigned
