City of Hope is a world-renowned independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. Established with a mission to deliver innovative cures and compassionate care, City of Hope has developed a growing national system comprised of its Los Angeles campus, a network of clinical care locations throughout Southern California, as well as specialized cancer centers in regions including Orange County, Atlanta, Chicago, and Phoenix. This expansive system allows the organization to touch the lives of countless patients by combining expert clinical practice with cutting-edge research to provide hope and healing. Known for its dedicated team members who are driven by a shared mission, City of Hope prioritizes patient-centered care while continuously advancing treatments that impact the future of medicine and health outcomes.
The Food Service Worker II role at City of Hope plays a vital part in supporting the smooth operation of food preparation and service within the institution’s food service environments. This position may be stationed at any location on the property where food is prepared, reflecting the expansive and varied food preparation areas across the campus. The role includes preparing and assembling meals from tray lines and kitchen stations, ensuring that patients, guests, and staff receive accurate, nutritious, and well-presented food selections according to established dietary guidelines. Key responsibilities also include assisting with the setup and serving of food at counters or steam tables, managing cash and credit transactions responsibly, and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation within the workspace. The Food Service Worker II is expected to support a welcoming dining environment by engaging courteously with customers and helping with food service-related tasks including opening containers, cutting food, and restocking supplies.
Beyond daily food assembly and service, this role contributes to the operating efficiency by properly handling cash register functions, including accurate item ring-ups, securing cash transactions, and adhering strictly to City of Hope’s cash-handling policies. Safety and compliance are essential, with the Food Service Worker II required to attend all relevant allergy and foodborne illness training, participate in safety meetings, and comply with the institution’s safety and infection control protocols. Ensuring a clean, hygienic, and safe work environment through effective cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, workstations, and dining areas is a continuous responsibility.
This position requires a high level of integrity, honesty, and discretion in handling confidential information and maintaining professionalism. City of Hope values team members who are proactive in their approach to safety, quality, and customer service, all while supporting the organization’s broader goal of delivering the cures of tomorrow to those who need them today. This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in food service within a healthcare setting, offering both personal satisfaction and professional growth in a challenging and rewarding environment. Compensation for City of Hope employees is determined based on work experience, qualifications, and work location. City of Hope is committed to equal opportunity and values diversity among its workforce.
