This position is for a Food Service Worker responsible for supervising inmate labor and team members within a correctional facility kitchen. The role involves preparing and serving food in accordance with detailed menus and regulatory food handling standards. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for food, an understanding of food safety regulations, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The Food Service Worker will carry out numerous essential functions, including supervising kitchen operations during food preparation and meal service, ensuring sanitary storage and handling of food, maintaining clean work environments, and complying with facility uniform and safety policies. Physical demands are notable in this role, involving lifting, bending, standing for long durations, and general kitchen maintenance tasks.   • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience preferred
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, and walking
  • Dependable and flexible work ethic

Job Duties

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members in the kitchen during food prep and food service shifts
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct inmate labor and/or team members in the preparation of quality foods according to the planned menu, recipes, and work instructions in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all food is stored properly and in a sanitary manner
  • Serve food during planned meal schedules and according to department policies and procedures
  • Utilize kitchen utensils/equipment to cook, prepare and serve food according to recipes
  • follow all food safety regulations pertaining to sanitation, food handling and storage
  • Train other food service workers
  • Maintain a clean work area/environment including cleaning refrigerators, freezers, cooking and serving equipment
  • Follow the facility uniform policy
  • Keep up with garbage collection and keep kitchen floors clean from excess food/trash
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness and readiness for food prep/serving including sweeping, mopping and dishwashing
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods
  • Be able to stand and be on your feet for much of the scheduled shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
