Job Requirements

  • Experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
  • Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to complete and maintain food safety training required by University Housing and Dining

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
  • Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to complete and maintain food safety training required by University Housing and Dining
  • One year or more experience working and preparing food using commercial kitchen equipment
  • One year or more experience as a cashier in a food service operation utilizing point-of-sale systems
  • Customer service experience in a high-volume food service operation
  • Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Job Duties

  • Serve high-quality food products including short-order and made-to-order cooking and customized drinks using commercial kitchen equipment
  • Read, follow, and execute recipes based on culinary standards
  • Set up, stock, clean, and replenish the serving area before and during service
  • Maintain menu and product knowledge and ensure customer satisfaction with food and drink quality
  • Break down and clean all serving areas, workstations, and equipment after service
  • Restock shelves, beverage stations, and convenience store merchandise as needed
  • Ensure completion of cleaning tasks throughout the shift
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting and assisting customers and maintaining a professional and enthusiastic demeanor
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) system accurately processing meal plan, cash, and credit transactions
  • Maintain and replenish service supplies such as condiments and napkins
  • Assist in cleaning and sanitation of dining rooms, kitchens, dish areas, and bathrooms including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning surfaces
  • Report emergencies and equipment issues promptly
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines including proper food storage, temperature maintenance, and avoiding cross-contamination
  • Follow work safety guidelines including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Provide support throughout dining units as needed
  • Assist with training and guidance for new and existing staff including student workers
  • Adhere to university policies regarding time and attendance, training, and compliance
  • Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety
  • Follow cash handling and reporting procedures including transfer of funds reports, closing reports, and cash reconciliation sheets
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
