Job Description

Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)(3) non-profit evangelical Christian ministry focused on sharing the Gospel and assisting the homeless and impoverished communities in the Kalamazoo area. This Christ-centered organization is deeply committed to fostering a supportive and transformative environment, where all staff members uphold the mission's values and culture rooted in grace, prayer, and worship. The ministry emphasizes spiritual maturity, ethical integrity, and a lifestyle consistent with Christian teachings. All staff are expected to participate in daily prayer and Bible study, reflecting a strong desire to spread the good news of Jesus Christ while serving those in need. Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a nicotine-free ministry, promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle to all employees and volunteers.

The role in this ministry is vital, focusing on managing food donations and coordinating logistics to ensure that resources reach those in need efficiently and safely. The position is responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of food and non-food items, maintaining high standards of safety and sanitation, including temperature control of perishable goods. This role includes active coordination with volunteer drivers, partner organizations, and ministry leadership to support menu development and facilitate emergency food baskets when necessary. The job requires knowledge of warehouse operations, including the use of equipment such as pallet jacks, tailgate lifts, and walk-behind lift trucks. The role also demands strong organizational skills to maintain proper inventory rotation using FIFO (first in, first out) principles and accurate record-keeping using systems like Thrift Tracker.

Employees in this role embody the ministry's values by demonstrating compassion, integrity, and a cooperative spirit while working in both varying indoor and outdoor environments. Physical activity is frequent, involving lifting, bending, climbing, and working in temperatures ranging from freezing conditions to extreme summer heat. The role demands flexibility, calmness under pressure, and perseverance in a fast-paced setting. The pay rate for this position is $16 per hour, reflecting its critical contribution to the ministry's mission. This opportunity is ideal for those who not only possess relevant warehouse and food handling experience but also have a genuine calling to serve God and community through meaningful work in a faith-based environment.
