The role at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur is focused on providing leadership in food service operations within this healthcare setting. Specifically, the position supervises food preparation and service in the dietary division of the hospital. Effective food service is essential in maintaining patient health and satisfaction, especially in a Skilled Nursing Facility where dietary needs are complex and varied. This role involves oversight of kitchen operations, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with sanitation and food safety standards. Responsibilities include managing work schedules, inventory control, food requisition, and quality assurance. The work schedule consists of 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. shifts with rotating weekends, reflecting the need for continuous and flexible services in a healthcare environment. The position demands strong organizational skills, knowledge of food service operations, and the ability to train and direct kitchen personnel. It is integral to the healthcare team, ensuring that nourishment services support the overall well-being of patients while adhering to regulatory standards. Job Requirements

  • a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent
  • completion of a ninety-hour course in food service supervision approved by the American Dietetic Association or New York State Department of Education, and two years full-time experience in quantity food preparation and/or service
  • or completion of a two-year Dietetic Technician training program approved by the American Dietetic Association
  • a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Job Duties

  • supervises the operation of a hospital kitchen section or food distribution unit
  • instructs and supervises cooks, dietary aides, and other staff in food preparation and service
  • supervises sanitation and housekeeping activities to ensure compliance with food safety standards
  • prepares work schedules and assigns duties, ensuring adequate personnel coverage
  • receives and inspects food and supply deliveries, supervising storage and distribution
  • requisitions foods and supplies, maintains accurate inventory records and submits required reports
