Job Description
IDEA Public Schools is a renowned network of tuition-free, Pre-K-12 public charter schools dedicated to preparing students for college success. Founded in 2000, IDEA has expanded from a modest school with 150 students to a thriving multi-state organization that serves over 80,000 college-bound students across Texas, Florida, and Ohio. The school system is nationally recognized, earning prestigious rankings on The Washington Post and U.S. News & World Report's top high schools lists. IDEA Public Schools is committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of background, has the opportunity and resources to attend and complete college. With a steadfast commitment to education excellence and community involvement, IDEA fosters a supportive and empowering environment for both students and staff alike.
As a Food Service Specialist at IDEA Public Schools, you will play a critical role in supporting the health and nutrition of students by ensuring that food is prepared, portioned, and served in appropriate quantities. This role involves a variety of tasks such as cutting and chopping fruits and vegetables, following recipes with precision, and maintaining strict adherence to kitchen safety and sanitation standards. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring students during meal periods to encourage healthy eating habits, oversee appropriate behavior, and ensure no food sharing occurs among students, upholding best practices in cafeteria management.
The position also encompasses essential kitchen maintenance duties, including sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, and properly disposing of trash. The Food Service Specialist works collaboratively as part of a team, adapting to the dynamic needs of the school environment. This role demands a keen attention to detail, physical stamina to handle tasks such as moving cafeteria tables and garbage disposal, and the ability to operate a range of kitchen equipment effectively. The ideal candidate is passionate about food service and committed to contributing positively to the IDEA mission of fostering educational success and well-being for all students.
This position offers compensation ranging from $13.00 to $14.95 per hour depending on experience, with eligibility for a performance bonus based on team achievements and goal attainment. Employees benefit from a comprehensive plan that covers the majority of the employee premium for medical insurance and subsidizes coverage for dependents. Additional perks include paid family leave of up to 8 weeks for the birth or adoption of a child, tuition reimbursement covering up to 50% of tuition costs (subject to manager approval), mental and behavioral health services, dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, generous vacation time, referral bonuses, and professional development opportunities. IDEA Public Schools values continuous learning and fosters a supportive work culture built around integrity, respect, and belonging, aligning with their mission to make college achievable for every student.
Joining IDEA means becoming part of a dedicated team that embraces core values of accountability, urgency, collaboration, and professionalism. Staff members are encouraged to adapt to change, seek and respond to feedback constructively, and uphold high standards of conduct as role models within the school community. This is an empowering career opportunity for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are motivated to support the educational journey of students through essential food service contributions.
