Job Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Minimum 3 years experience in food preparation, service techniques, cashiering, sanitation standards, and dietary knowledge in a hospital or restaurant environment
  • Ability to read and understand communications
  • Self-directed with decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain friendly demeanor
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and push/pull 20 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, squat, bend, twist, kneel, and climb during shifts
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Willingness to wear protective clothing and enter patient isolation rooms
  • Ability to work in environments containing fumes, odors, dust, and other kitchen hazards

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • Typically requires 3 years experience in food preparation and service in a large hospital or hotel/restaurant
  • Strong knowledge of food service environments
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with nursing personnel
  • Ability to read and understand written and oral communications
  • Self-directed and able to work independently
  • Friendly and cheerful demeanor
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Knowledge of food/drug interactions and food allergens
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office or similar
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification (within 1 year)

Job Duties

  • Acts as a resource to employees and students including training, orienting, and providing work direction
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews work progress and accuracy
  • Monitors productivity and staffing levels
  • Assists with human resource responsibilities such as interviewing and staff development
  • Monitors general department operations and adjusts schedules as needed
  • Provides work direction and guidance to food service staff
  • Maintains quality food production and resolves customer and staff issues
  • Forecasts food requirements and maintains meal records
  • Manages purchasing, tray-line, cafeteria, and special function requests
  • Inspects equipment and work areas for proper use and sanitation
  • Utilizes safety and sanitation standards to ensure safe food handling
  • Performs duties as Food Service Assistant or Food Ambassador including meal assembly and customer service
