The Food Service Director at Aramark plays a critical management role responsible for overseeing and executing dining solutions tailored to meet diverse customer needs and tastes. This role involves leading dining operations where customers order prepared foods from a menu, ensuring exceptional customer service, financial performance, and operational excellence. As a pivotal leader, the Food Service Director mentors and develops teams, implements safety and sanitation standards, manages budgets with cost controls on food, beverage, and labor, and aligns food service plans with the client’s mission and vision, including sustainable practices.

This position demands expertise in client relationship management by effectively communicating operational progress and aligning services with client expectations. The Food Service Director utilizes Aramark processes and systems to build revenue, complete and maintain profit and loss statements, achieve food and labor targets, and manage resources efficiently. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with safety, health, wage, and other regulatory standards while maintaining high levels of employee engagement through recognition, coaching, and rewarding.

Key responsibilities include establishing systems for food ordering, receiving, storing, preparing, and serving, as well as menu planning and development. The role involves preparing operational forecasts, managing components accounting functions, conducting inventories, and maintaining records to comply with company, government, and accrediting agency standards. Additionally, the Food Service Director coordinates production, merchandising, quality control, labor management, and employee training, recruiting and retaining frontline teams, and potentially participating in sales processes and contract negotiations.

The position also entails managing the front of the house operations in cafeterias or residential dining facilities and looking for opportunities to introduce new products and services that support sales growth and client retention. This role is instrumental in creating value through efficient operations, cost controls, and profit management while ensuring a safe and healthy environment for clients, customers, and employees. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in food service
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in a management role
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective client and customer rapport
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 lb
  • Ability to stand for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Adopt Aramark process and systems
  • Build revenue and manage budget, including cost controls regarding food, beverage and labor
  • Ensure the completion and maintenance of P&L statements
  • Achieve food and labor targets
  • Manage resources to ensure quality and cost control within budgetary guidelines
  • Implement and maintain Aramark agenda for both labor and food initiatives
  • Create value through efficient operations, appropriate cost controls and profit management
  • Full compliance with Operational Excellence fundamentals, including food and labor
  • Direct and oversee operations related to production, distribution and food service
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for clients, customers and employees
  • Comply with all applicable policies, rules and regulations, including but not limited to those relating to safety, health, wage and hour
  • Establish and maintain systems and procedures for the ordering, receiving, storing, preparing and serving of food related products, as well as menu planning and development
  • Develop operational component forecasts and explain variances
  • Coordinate and supervise unit personnel regarding production, merchandising, quality and cost control, labor management and employee training
  • Recruit, hire, develop and retain front line team
  • Conduct period inventory
  • Maintain records to comply with ARAMARK, government and accrediting agency standards
  • Interact with Client Management and maintain effective client and customer relations at all levels
  • Participate in sales process and negotiation of contracts
  • Look for opportunities to implement new products and services which support sales growth and client retention
  • Manage the front of the house of the dining operation
  • Develop and implement food service plans aligned with the client's mission and vision, including sustainable practices
