The Food Service Associate role at Jefferson Health is a vital position focused on patient meal and food service excellence to ensure high patient satisfaction. Reporting to the Supervisor of Food Service and guided by the Lead Food Service Associate, this role involves managing and executing food service tasks that cater to a diverse patient demographic ranging from infants to elderly adults. The Associate is responsible for preparing, stocking, and delivering meals according to established sanitary and safety guidelines, as well as Jefferson's rigorous food service policies. This position requires interaction with co-workers, visitors, and other hospital staff, upholding the values and standards of Jefferson Health in all communications and actions. Key responsibilities include setting up service stations before meals to ensure operational efficiency, retrieving and delivering meal trays in a sanitary and timely manner, maintaining inventory levels and usage records, and preparing or serving beverages and snacks. The Associate must also adhere to CDC hand hygiene recommendations and manage food storage properly to ensure freshness and safety. Additional duties include packaging food items according to cook and chill guidelines, supporting multiple areas through cross-training, and maintaining cleanliness in food preparation and dishwashing areas.
This is a regular, rotating shift position located at Albert Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton, Pennsylvania. While the position prefers a high school graduate or equivalent and previous food service experience, it is also open to candidates without extensive prior experience who possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Job Duties
- interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
- sets up and stocks assigned station prior to the start of service and for next meal to facilitate meal service and ensure efficiency
- may retrieve patient meal trays to ensure sanitary, safe and timely patient meal service
- maintains appropriate floor stock according par levels and records usage accordingly
- handles food according to proper sanitary and safety guidelines, follows food service handling methods according to policies and procedures
- ensures all food is prepared using recipes in order to provide consistent, safe, nutritionally appropriate, tasty meals that are cost and budget compliant
- complies with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines
- may prepare or serve hot or cold beverages such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, or teas
- serves prepared foods such as muffins, biscotti, or bagels
- stores leftovers appropriately and utilizes same in subsequent day/menu in order to ensure they are served within timeframe
- may package, label, and date hot food items for patient service and cafeteria operations according to established cook and chill guidelines
- properly vacuum packs all food products, as required
- may be utilized in multiple areas of need, therefore may be cross-trained to conduct many different duties such as tray line, storeroom, and food preparation areas
- may work in dish room or pot area to support proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment in accordance with department standards
- maintains proper care and safe storage of food, equipment, and surrounding area
- completes daily and special cleaning assignments to provide a sanitary and safe environment
- performs other duties as assigned
