The Food Service Associate I role at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus is essential in upholding the standards of patient care through proper food service management. This position involves assembling, serving, and delivering food and supplies to patient care areas with strict adherence to regulatory food safety standards. The associate supports the hospital's overall mission by ensuring that food is provided safely, efficiently, and attractively, which contributes significantly to the patient experience. In addition to direct food service tasks, the associate assists with sanitizing areas and cleaning kitchen utensils to maintain hygiene and compliance with health regulations.

This full-time role requires a detail-oriented individual who understands the importance of food safety practices, including accurate temperature recording and proper food handling procedures. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining equipment, practicing excellent hand hygiene, and following uniform and glove protocols. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience in healthcare, hospitality, or institutional food service preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to follow regulatory standards for food safety
  • Strong personal hygiene and handwashing practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Job Qualifications

  • Preferred high school diploma/GED
  • 1 year healthcare or hospitality preferred
  • 1 year food service - institutional preferred
  • 1 year customer service preferred
  • Food Handler Certification - ServSafe while working in Illinois required
  • Food Handler Certification - ServSafe while working in Indiana preferred

Job Duties

  • Clean, maintain, and assemble equipment ensuring proper usage
  • Practice good handwashing and personal hygiene, including wearing clean uniforms, covering hair, and using gloves properly
  • Prepare, assemble and deliver food and supplies on time and according to lists or tallies, as needed
  • Record food and refrigeration temperatures accurately, including in kitchens and within units where there are patient refrigerators
  • Serve food according to food regulatory standards for temperature, in the correct portion and presented in an attractive manner
  • Store equipment and supplies according to standards
  • Transport or store food safely, including covering, dating, and labeling foods
