Recognized for its dedication to inclusivity, respect for diversity, and cultural humility, PeaceHealth stands as a leading provider in the healthcare sector, consistently striving to improve community health through compassionate care and innovative approaches. As a multi-state health system, PeaceHealth operates hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities that offer a full range of healthcare services, focusing on healing and wellness in a holistic manner. The organization values the overall wellbeing of its caregivers, supporting their physical, emotional, financial, social, and spiritual health, making it a highly desirable workplace for healthcare professionals who seek a balanced and rewarding career. PeaceHealth offers competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits packages to its employees, reflecting its commitment to invest in the people who make patient care possible.
The Food Service Assistant position in Nutrition Services at PeaceHealth is a part-time role (0.80 FTE) specifically covering evening shifts. This position offers a salary range of $19.29 to $29.59 per hour, with the starting salary influenced by various factors such as education, work experience, training, seniority, and applicable collective bargaining agreements. As a union-represented role, this position provides stability and additional employee protections under the collective bargaining framework. The key responsibilities involve carrying out a variety of tasks essential to the preparation, delivery, and cleanup of food products in hospital and catering service settings, all while adhering to strict HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) guidelines to ensure safe food handling.
The Food Service Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the hospital’s food service operations by preparing, mixing, assembling, portioning, serving, storing, and delivering food products safely and efficiently. The role also includes operating dish machines, cleaning kitchenware and work areas, transporting food, supplies, and equipment as needed, and possibly handling cashier duties within cafeteria settings. This position requires strong customer service skills, solid knowledge of food sanitation and safety practices, and the ability to communicate effectively to ensure tasks are performed correctly and safely. The work environment involves physical activity such as lifting and moving objects up to moderate weights, frequent bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, all typical of a dynamic food service setting. The position demands the ability to work collaboratively with others in a fast-paced environment, maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety, and adapt to tasks as assigned by management.
In addition to the engaging work in Nutrition Services, PeaceHealth provides a comprehensive total rewards package for caregivers, including full medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 403b retirement plan with employer matching contributions, paid time off, employer-paid life and disability insurance with options to increase coverage, tuition and continuing education reimbursement, wellness programs, and expanded employee assistance programs that support mental health. PeaceHealth's commitment to caregiver wellbeing and the inclusive work culture makes this role an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in building a rewarding career in healthcare food services while contributing to patient care and community health.
