PeaceHealth is currently seeking a Food Service Assistant - Nutrition Services for a full-time, 1.00 FTE day position at St. Joseph Medical Center. The salary ranges from $20.66 to $30.99 per hour, with the hiring rate based on factors such as education, training, experience, and seniority under the applicable collective bargaining agreement. This role is key to supporting hospital food and catering services operations, focusing on preparing, serving, cleaning, and delivering food products safely according to HACCP guidelines. The Food Service Assistant plays an essential role in ensuring that patients receive quality nutrition and positive dining experiences within the healthcare setting.

In this role, the Food Service Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks including the preparation, mixing, assembly, portioning, serving, and storage of food items following strict safety and sanitation protocols. Operating dish machines, heavy cleaning, transporting supplies, and assisting with cafeteria cashier duties are also part of the daily responsibilities. The assistant must be adept at adhering to established guidelines for set-up, clean-up, and overall food service quality. At St. Joseph Medical Center, there is an additional emphasis on interacting with patients by taking electronic meal orders, delivering and retrieving patient trays, and ensuring patient satisfaction through direct engagement. Training in electronic tablet competency and nutrition-specific knowledge is provided during orientation to ensure comprehensive support for special dietary needs.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong customer service skills, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and effective communication to safely and efficiently perform job duties. A Food Handler's Card issued in Washington State is required, with a high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in retail food service and at least one year of relevant work experience is advantageous. The working conditions involve light to moderate physical activity, including lifting (up to 50 lbs), frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling, as well as working in sometimes noisy environments near heated surfaces and liquids.

Job Duties

  • Prepare mix assemble portion serve and store food following applicable guidelines
  • operate dish machine wash pots and perform heavy cleaning duties following safety and sanitation guidelines
  • transport equipment food supplies and trash as directed

  • follow guidelines for assigned station set-up and clean-up
  • take electronic meal orders from patients in person and over the phone using electronic tablet and associated software
  • deliver and retrieve patient trays ensuring patient satisfaction through rounds
  • deliver snacks nourishments and tube feedings to patient care units
  • perform other duties as assigned
