The Food Service Assistant Manager III position at Miramar High is a vital role within the Food & Nutrition Services Department. This role involves performing skilled work in the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate and reimbursable meals, ensuring all phases of food service operations are managed efficiently. The Assistant Manager will support the Food & Nutrition Services Manager and Area Supervisor by assuming operational and management responsibilities during their absence. This position requires a proactive leader who can supervise staff, oversee food production, ensure compliance with federal and state nutrition standards, and maintain high-quality meal services. The position is nonexempt with a pay grade of SF1024, offering an hourly rate of $17.58 for a 7.5-hour workday over a 204-day calendar. The role requires interaction with various stakeholders, including school administrators, district staff, and students, to guarantee the efficient delivery of food services that support student health and academic success.

This Assistant Manager is responsible for delegating tasks, participating in ongoing state-approved training covering aspects like nutrition, sanitation, and quantity cooking, and acting as a liaison between the food service personnel and school administrators. They oversee food production, cost control through careful planning and inventory management, adherence to meal count systems, and ensuring sanitation standards and purchasing procedures are followed. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as verifying deliveries, auditing quality and pricing, managing inventory, maintaining accurate records, and supervising cash and deposit procedures. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in food service, including at least one year of experience within the last three years, competency in basic adult education, and knowledge of quantity food service, sanitation, and nutrition. Job Requirements

  • A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program
  • Attain minimum competency level of satisfactory at the 11th grade level on the Test of Basic Adult Education (T.A.B.E. Test)
  • A minimum of one (1) year, within the last three (3) years of food service experience
  • General knowledge of quantity food service, sanitation, and nutrition
  • Prior experience in food production in cooking or baking recommended
  • Computer skills as required for the position

Job Duties

  • Supervise staff as assigned in the performance of job duties
  • Delegate duties and tasks to assigned staff when directed by the Food & Nutrition Services Managers
  • Participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational initiatives relating to Food & Nutrition Services including Foundations of School Food Service, Nutrition, Quantity Cooking, and Sanitation classes
  • Act as a liaison between the school-based administrators, Food & Nutrition Services personnel, and Food and Nutrition Services District staff for all program operations
  • Ensure students receive nutritious meals and quality service in compliance with USDA, Broward County School Board, and Food & Nutrition Services Department policies
  • Assist in supervising food production and service to meet high standards for flavor, appearance, and compliance with federal and state requirements
  • Ensure compliance with standards relating to food preparation, serving portion size, and sanitation practices
  • Adhere to Meal Count System procedures
  • Assist the manager in planning and monitoring food production to ensure safe, good quality meals served in appropriate quantities and times
  • Follow standards and ensure compliance with purchasing procedures
  • Provide input regarding menu planning items for school meals
  • Maintain cost control through planning, inventory ordering, preparation, and service
  • Pre-plan meals and document food and supplies utilized
  • Verify leftovers and plan for effective utilization
  • Verify inventories of commodities, purchased food, and non-food items
  • Check-in all deliveries, verify quantities, and audit for quality and price
  • Direct proper storage of food and non-food items following safety procedures
  • Conduct Capital Inventory verification as directed
  • Maintain complete, adequate, and accurate records as required by local, state, and national programs
  • Verify cash and complete deposit procedures according to the approved School Board cash collection system
  • Oversee operations and staff and assist with participating in the employee hiring process
