The full-time role within the Food and Nutrition Department at the AMC Kenosha facility of Advocate Health is designed to provide essential meal services in a hospital environment, operating on a schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with every other weekend work required. This position offers a competitive pay range from $18.85 to $28.30 per hour and includes eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package. The candidate will be responsible for assembling patient and mobile meal trays consistent with approved diet guidelines and portion controls while adhering to productivity standards. Duties include loading and transporting food carts, delivering meals to patient rooms following established procedures, and managing cashier responsibilities in the cafeteria such as operating registers and reconciling cash balances. The role also involves routine cleaning and sanitation of kitchen and cafeteria areas, preparing snacks, beverages, sandwiches, and other patient food items according to standardized recipes and diet restrictions, and supporting catered and specialized events through preparation, delivery, setup, cleanup, and presentation activities. Other responsibilities include maintaining food service areas by replenishing supplies of food, beverages, utensils, and condiments and ensuring adherence to food safety guidelines by monitoring temperatures and practices to prevent foodborne illnesses.
This position demands physical activity such as lifting up to 40 pounds, standing and walking for most of the shift, and utilizing kitchen equipment safely and effectively. The work environment may expose the employee to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards, as well as instances requiring protective clothing such as when entering patient isolation rooms. The ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and team members is essential as is flexibility to work rotating holidays and evening shifts if needed. The role requires basic knowledge of food service within hospital or related settings and intermediate computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and email. Although no prior experience or formal education is required, successful candidates must demonstrate good customer service aptitude, communication skills, and the ability to understand both oral and written instructions. Job Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs from floor to 5 ft
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance
- Ability to push/pull with 20 lbs of force
- Standing, walking, reaching above shoulders, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing throughout the workday
- Ability to operate dish-machine, tray line, garbage disposal, and other equipment
- Willingness to work rotating holidays and every other weekend
- Willingness to work flexible hours including PM/evening shifts
- Ability to wear protective clothing when necessary
- Ability to work safely around mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards
- Ability to enter patient isolation rooms wearing appropriate coverings
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Assembles patient and mobile meal trays meals in accordance with approved diet guidelines and portions while adhering to productivity standards
- Loads and transports food carts
- Delivers patient meal trays to patient rooms in accordance with established procedures
- Provides initial service to visitors in the cafeteria by serving food and maintaining cleanliness
- Operates cash register, handles cash, and completes daily reports and cash register balance sheets
- Performs cleaning duties using established sanitation procedures in the kitchen and cafeteria
- Assists with preparation, delivery, setup, cleanup, and presentation of catered and specialized events
- Prepares snacks, beverages, sandwiches, and other patient food items according to standardized recipes and approved diet guidelines
- Prepares, arranges, serves, and replenishes supplies of food, beverages, and condiments in retail areas and kitchen
- Delivers and stocks nursing units, doctors' lounges, same day surgery, and emergency rooms following established procedures
- Monitors food temperatures and uses procedures to ensure safe food handling techniques
- Adheres to safety and sanitary protocols in kitchen and food service areas
