Job Description
The Food Bank for Larimer County is a vital non-profit organization dedicated to ending hunger in the community by rescuing good food that would otherwise go to waste and distributing it to those in need. Established with a mission to nourish neighbors and reduce food insecurity, the Food Bank operates through strong partnerships with local grocery stores, farms, restaurants, and statewide donors. Their innovative programs, including the No-Cost Market and collaborations with community agencies, ensure that no edible food goes unused while providing nutritious meals to thousands of people. Known for its welcoming and inclusive environment, the Food Bank not only focuses on food redistribution but also fosters community engagement and education about food justice and sustainability.
The role of Food Rescue Route Driver is essential in the operational success of the Food Bank for Larimer County. This position is more than just driving a truck; it is about being the compassionate and professional face of the organization while performing critical delivery and food safety tasks. The Food Rescue Route Driver will primarily operate a 26-foot non-CDL box truck to pick up rescued food from a variety of partners and deliver it to the Food Bank’s warehouse, the No-Cost Market, and other community agencies. Emphasizing food safety, the driver will inspect and handle donated items, maintain proper storage and temperature guidelines, and uphold the highest standards according to Feeding America’s donation protocols.
Candidates for this role must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, community-focused environment, showing operational excellence and attention to detail in all activities. This position also requires compliance with Department of Transportation regulations around vehicle maintenance, licensing, and recordkeeping. Beyond transportation, the Food Rescue Route Driver will assist in warehouse operations like inventory management, loading, and unloading shipments. The role occasionally involves supporting special events that may take place in the evenings or weekends.
The Food Bank greatly values strong communication and partner relations skills since drivers regularly liaise with donors, partners, and internal teams to provide updates on routes and resolve any arising issues. Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office and inventory tracking systems, is important to keep accurate documentation of all rescued food collected and delivered. The position offers meaningful work that directly impacts hunger reduction in Larimer County and provides an opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization.
This is a full-time position offering a competitive benefits package including employer-paid medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; access to employer-paid primary care through Nice Healthcare; an annual $1,000 Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution; company-matched 401K plan with immediate vesting after one year; paid vacation, sick time, holidays, and your birthday. The Food Bank supports a positive workplace culture focused on health, community involvement, and professional growth, making it an excellent choice for individuals passionate about social impact and community service.
