The Food and Beverage Manager at Mandarin Oriental New York is a full-time, permanent position that reports to the Assistant Director of Food and Beverage. This role is essential for ensuring seamless operational management of the food and beverage service team. The manager is charged with leading a team that upholds the hotel’s commitment to excellence, integrating expert knowledge of menus, beverages, and service techniques to enhance the guest experience. Key responsibilities include organizing the staff efficiently, overseeing reservation seating, proactively engaging with guests, and constantly circulating within the dining areas to ensure service quality and address opportunities for improvement. This leadership role requires a strong ability to communicate, high attention to detail, and a passion for delivering luxury hospitality experiences. Job Requirements

  • Minimum twenty-one years of age to serve alcoholic beverages
  • Five or more years experience in restaurant service with three or more years in supervisory role
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbal and written
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Ability to navigate point of sale systems
  • Ability to use email and word processing software
  • Ability to use time and attendance software
  • Ability to provide legible written communication
  • Training others in FOH policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in a restaurant service position
  • Minimum three years in a supervisory role
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions including email and word processing
  • Experience using point of sale systems and time and attendance software
  • Ability to train staff in policies and procedures
  • Minimum age of 21 to serve alcohol

Job Duties

  • Maintains expert level knowledge of all menus and ingredients including cocktails, beers, wines, food items, and spirits
  • Participates in pre-service meetings to communicate special reservations and service expectations
  • Develops, implements, and manages food and beverage marketing activities
  • Maintains and enforces FOH department control and cash handling procedures
  • Assists in training new hires and ongoing staff education
  • Organizes private events in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Ensures compliance with alcohol safety regulations and upholds service standards in MO Lounge and IRD service teams
  • Greets guests and fosters a welcoming atmosphere to encourage return visits
  • Supervises the setup and breakdown of dining areas
  • Instructs staff on proper equipment use and maintenance
  • Exemplifies expert guest relations and promptly attends to guest needs and complaints
  • Communicates important guest arrivals and requests to management
  • Ensures service conforms to departmental and brand standards including MOQA, FORBES, LQA, and LQE
  • Complies fully with health and safety procedures
  • Covers any FOH position as needed
  • Maintains attendance records
  • Administers menu-related testing
  • Reports on daily operations and unusual events
  • Performs other duties as assigned
